General Update - Northwest Region

Taking note of TNTAndys great thread/idea HERE I thought it was time to do a similar thing for the Northwest. For anyone who I haven't had chance to speak to feel free to pop your info down in here.

Alex

Engine:

Shift the radiator across to accomodate the FMIC a little better. Fit a Mocal oil cooler kit together with thermo sandwich plate. Also plans to swap his exhaust for a side exit. Re-jet the carb and up the boost to 1 barish. General maintenance.

Bodywork:

Fit the side skirts with a little more finese than bonding! Paint a few areas on the car which are looking a little poor.

Suspension:

Would like to raise the rear torsion bars a little but the bar ends are goosed.

Looks like Winter will be spent in the garage mate!

Andy seems quite happy with his car at the moment and not needing to spend anything on it apart from petrol of course. He plans to get his car up to WGT on 20th August to get a few dyno runs on his current set up, then wants to remove the t2 turbo out of his .63 housing and machine a t25 wheel in there all in time for Octobers event. (Details in the events Section) He's also toying with the idea of mappable ignition.:eek:

After a very successful dyno last month that saw Steve grinning like a cheshire cat he went off and has recently had a new improved carb put on so hopefully can get closer to that target of 300bhp on the next dyno day. 18psi got him 224.3 last time :eek:

Recently having become a father (to twins :eek: ) Phil has also been rebuilding his 5. he's currently enjoying driving the car since his first full engine build, still tuning for big boost, currently have it fueling for 24psi and shall we just say the last reports were positive! It's plenty of fun on the road at that boost by all accounts ;)

Plans for the future are to get his rather orange looking jacking points welded and to finally fit a frount mounted intercooler and at some point sort out his rusty windscreen surround.
Just you wait until the twins are old enough fella! Team Phil FTW!!

Haz

Haz's Renault 21has had a few oil leaks and not being able to get the sump off due to knarled bolts the engine had to be removed. So as per norm, Haz started to restore it. Its been freshly painted white, along with all bkts, subframe, suspension etc. Engine and ancillaries are also getting a refurb so the whole thing should look like new, even down to new bottles, nuts and bolts. The turbo has been replaced with a t4 hybrid from Scoff, manifold modified to take an external wastegate to match up to a modified cosworth full 3" system with an extra centre silencer to keep the noise at a 'normal' level. He's been able to source some other parts to be fitted during the engine build such as converting to ph2 bottom end with baffled sump, a lightened and balanced crank, paddle clutch, vernier pulley, 403 injectors, 3bar map sensor, bosch uprated fuel pump, braided fuel lines to replace the plastic ones and a cossie fpr. He's still to source the right cam. The plan, with the help of Scoff, is to make some good reliable power but not go too ott with custom parts. Good luck with that fella! :niceone:

Gibbo

For those of you who havent seen Gibbos 5 its the immaculate Phase 2 Blue E plate and its stunning! A real delight to see and having drove it as close to the original thing as possible! Due to some recent success in classic car shows including National Day & Cheshire Classic Car Show he plans on keeping the car in total original OE state and enjoying it for as long as he can. Be sure to have a look at it at RWS in a couple of weeks!

Tony Walker

Tony is the owner and mechanic of Motech on the Wirral. Specialising in Renaults he works tirelessly with his Dad helping us all out. I was told about him through the V6 owners club and havent looked back since! You may of seen him blasting round the track at The National Day.

His current situation is as follows:

His Red 5 is off the road at the moment, still taxedx tested and insured but engine is on a stand in his unit, new pistons/liners are in, all new bearings thrust washers are in, rods/caps and main caps all torqued. New pistons with new rings and gudgeon pins fitted. New oil pump internals and machined housing ready and he's just got to time his piper 285 up and whack the head on. He's hoping it should be on the road in a month or so. His pearl 5 is still in his Dads garage, probably growing mouldy bits. :wasntme:

His quest for more power and (more importantly!) more traction continues!

Me - Lomo

The old girl has done me proud this last 8 or so months after some help from various members and a rather manic weekender getting her back together. The plan, if work allows it, is to treat the car to a respray this winter. She could do with a fresh lick of paint and some graphics putting back on. Apart from that she runs well so wont be doing much under the hood.

Matts five hasn't been touched for 12 months but his shell is painted and he just has an engine to build. And fuel lines and brake lines all new need to be done. matt is experiencing the wonders of owning a house so once thats all sorted the 5 will be back amongst us! :niceone:

Doris and I are still alive and well on the Fylde. I spent the winter chasing a mysterious missfire and found several possible causes such as an ancient battery terminal connector collapsed pipe conectors missing restrictors in the breather circuit. I bought a new ignition switch and car alarm as well. Any way as a result Im posting some really quick times in my speed events. I have regained the class record at Barbon hill climb (only as a result of the Westmoorland MC resetting the record in response to the change in the class rules but its still a good time)

A amateur film maker called Ian is making a film of me and the car just for his film club so if its not too embarasing I will post a link.

Doris will be on the Liverpool MC display stand at Oulton Park on the 28th August if anyone is going.

I am planning to make a short film explaining how to get into speed events to go on YouTube as we really need some new blood in the sport so look out for that. In the meantime here is a link to a film by Ian from the July event at 3 Sisters.
