hi there i would just like to run my current spec and then run what plans i have for the car and see what you guys think and please point me in the right direction

current spec
standard turbo
chrome lobster
dump valve
scorpion system
gtt double capacity intercooler
low temp thermostat
in car fan switch
alloy rocker cover
some samco hoses

plans
group a carb
uprated fuel pump
uprated fuel pressure regulator
in car boost controller
fit t25 turbo which i have with my car
ktr downpipe
gtt uprated radiator
fit radiator samcos
fit alloy boost pipes

what do you guts think please feel free to tell me if im doing things right as im new to the r5 scene

car looks very nice , i see a gt tunning bread bin....one of the best you can get i reckon, as for the future i wouldnt go group a carb , id stick with a standard just re jet it etc, a t25 turbo is a nice blower to buy with regards , little lag and nice power, adam L is a nice chap , look him up on here , he will advise you...:), i do like tungy greys, never owned one but they look lovely...well done you.

thanks mate i really do love it just noticed a slight oil leak thats just started so thats something else ill get sorted once in the garage.

iv read in a few places that its better just to re jet the standard carb so thats what i might do :)

group a carb - rejet standard carb to whatever boost your running
uprated fuel pump - phase 1 fuel pump
uprated fuel pressure regulator- not needed
in car boost controller- not needed, I'd stick at one boost setting and rejet carb for that
fit t25 turbo which i have with my car - as matt says they are nice compromise between power and lag.

ktr downpipe. Yeah any bigger flowing elbow will be good
gtt uprated radiator. Not needed
fit radiator samcos. Can do, down to looks
fit alloy boost pipes. Can do down to looks

I'd also look into the possiblity of keeping an eye on your fueling, by fitting a wideband. If this is being fit, you will need to weld a lambada bung into your turbo elbow.

Could run an external oil cooler, but not realy needed, unless your planing alot of track action.
Could run a larger diameter exhaust system
possible cam change, just depends how far you want to go.

You can get to tempted to turn it too far up.. when you get excited :) or is it possible for them to spike or turn up with out you asking them to?

so whats the best way of getting the boost turned up then ? my car has a bleed valve atm and no way am i messing about with it lol

Best way for me is to set the boost to what you want, using a bleed valve or adjusting the actuator then leaving it alone. The carb will need setting the the boost pressure you set it to after

What's the point in adjustable boost when your carb can only be set for the maximum boost you are wanting to run so say your carb is setup to run 20psi and you have adjustable boost from 10psi-20psi so when you turn the boost to 10psi you will still be fueling for 20psi.

Thats the exact reason i wouldn't use one, you can use it to adjust the boost pressure to the level you want but it so so easy to play with it after. I've had one or two people play with them after its been set up and cause some damage.

Ahh or if its done wrong, thus not being set to fuel the boost your asking it to. then melt down will follow... got it :)

got my car booked in at gt motorsport this friday for the following

fix oil leak
fix boost leak
set boost to 12 psi
set up carb
wideband lamba check to get the fuelling spot on

also took the spare t25 up there with me he said its in great condition and seems to be a hybrid :)

Up to around 14psi you dont need to adjust the fueling, after that you need to set up the carb, im guessing you are wanting to run more psi than 12psi?

i think the fuelling needs setting up anyway tbh plus i want it done for peace of mind :)

hmm i didnt know that about the psi/fuelling i was just thinking of upping the boost a tad and just making sure everything runs right for the next 2 months i might be tempted go to 14psi now :)

I dont know if i agree with the 14psi cut off point before the fueling needs adjusting. I took a c1j apart that had been run at 14psi to find the sides of all pistons melted and a liner cracked at the bottom, so much so that a triangle piece had completely broken off and bounced around making small dents in the underneath of the pistons. :confused:

as mentioned whichever boost i was thinking of running i was getting everything set up spot on as i dont want anything like what was mentioned above happening

Many people do, and have had no issues, but the engine i took apart had a standard turbo and was running at 14psi. So i wouldnt, but this is only down to problems i have seen, and the car could well of been running more than 14psi previous to my ownership, i will never know. Not trying to scare you. :eek::laugh:

well i think ill have it set at 14psi and have all the fuelling spot on then it should be sound :) just going run it until this turbo gets worn and then get the hybrid t25 fitted

to right i am new to the whole r5 scene but i know they are very temperamental things especially with the fuelling etc i just want everything right before i go for big power

also what bhp can a standard bottom end take if all fuelling is spot on

Bottom end is pretty much bullet proof. :agree:

also getting th GTT 'Group A' Ram Raid Induction Kit fitted what the guy who sold me the car give to me :) iv just bought a new jr filter as the old one was looking a bit worse for wear lol

Don't mount it next to the turbo.

where do i have to mount it ? need pics or something to give me an idea

been thinking of adding the gtt turbo heatsheild if i add this ram raid kit

Mount it in the exat place were your filter is now. :agree: . Your filter as it is now is in a different location to were it would be from factory, and so if you were to of used the telephone shaped hose from factory your filter would end up along side the turbo, On a open filter this suffers from a lot of heat soak. I think your running a 90 degree hose from your turbo to filter.

The 'usual' place is to mount it on the end of the telephone pipe, so that the filter sits alongside the turbo. Cr8p place to mount it, as it'll be sucking in the hot air surrounding the blower.

Best filter location is sealed in behind the nearside headlight, or alternatively, stick with the o.e filter/box :agree:

Btw, 14psi map on the o.e T2 is within its efficiency zone, so no prob's running it at that boost level. 18psi & you're on the threshold.

will it actually fit where it is now tho ? as its much bigger than the k&n kit ?

would it still get heat soak with the gtt heatsheild?

brilliant i think 14psi is a good compromise whilst i get used to the car and just to see if any naughty niggles arise before i go for a bigger power spec :)

thinking of ordering the gtt downpipe and gtt turbo elbow sometime in the new year also should make a nice improvement

There's cheaper alternatives.

Don't be sucked into the GT Tuning sales shpiel, as so many have been over the years.

If you are thinking of running 22psi next year then it might be worth looking into a front mount intercooler, makes the air filter mounting a piece of cake as there is a nice big cool air hole next to the rad where the old oe/bread bin intercooler used to live. Best of both world then!! If you get the right intercooler too you wont even know its there if you want to stick with the standard oe look :)

oh iv also ordered a set of larger jets and air corrector from ktec to get the fuelling spot on so im going for 16psi now lol

You won't be needing the larger jets from K-Tec for 16psi, i bet you they send a large main jet, you'll be fine on standard main jet with modded second stage and poss slight mod to air corrector if needed.

iv ordered the 1.3mm jet and air corrector, ill get them in anyway as the boost will be going higher in the new year :)

I doubt you'll even need the 1.3 for high boost, many people run in excess of 20psi on standard 1.2 main jet.

my new induction kit :)

got this in with the sale but the jr filter was battered and mishaped to hell so i bought a new un off ktec along with the induction hose

car has been dropped off at gt motorsport to have a few things done but mainly boost raised to 16psi, fuelling set up using wideband and gtt ram raid induction kit and bailey dv24 dump valve fitted ( if i dont like it ill stick the forge back on )

also having a few naughty niggles sorted whilst its in, i should have it back at around 3.30pm tomorrow so ill let you guys know how it goes
