My Electric Blue Renault 5 GTT
New poster! (less than 10 posts)
since getting rid of the Williams 2 i got it in my head i wanted a clio v6 but after looking around most of them needed a cam belt change and there were another few things that i was not happy about on the cars http://v6clio.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_sad.gif plus i would of got myself in more debt. So i have always wanted a Renault 5 gtt after looking i found one with low mileage and been very looked after it had loads of history, mot's, it had a full respray and engine rebuild with loads of new bits including a turbo about 10 years ago but since then it only done 1100 miles and sat in the garage and only used now and then so everything still looks new its a phase 1 but has phase 2 kit and interior
The car has 75000 on the clock with old mots as proof its currently running at around 130bhp has a few upgrades new turbo maybe hybrid ? really pulls well no knocks nothing, done about 250 miles since i got it and i am over the moon with it right little go kart and feels as fast as my Williams was to.
really checked around and there no rust the floor underneath has been treated so very happy, always loved them and i am glad i got this now and it only cost me £2300 so happy days
just needs 4 new tyres as they have cracked so i met up with Dave ( TopCat) and just bought his turbines

Re: My Electric Blue Renault 5 GTT
love it mate - wheels look much better now - I really want a set!
good price you got it for - looks really clean
I bought a set of those hinge covers for my raider when I got it too - couldnt work out why they kept falling off but then realised those pins that stick out on them need to be pushed in which opens the clip up on the inside of the cover making them fit tightly into place - so if you havent already done it give the pins a push mate
-
Re: My Electric Blue Renault 5 GTT
how nice is that well done mate

Re: My Electric Blue Renault 5 GTT

not sure mate got it off ebay
took the car to Marky again to get everything set up nicely :) the car was running very rich so carb had to come off and mark changed the main nozzle which had been drilled way to much in the past for a new standard one and drill the nozzle which should of been done :agree:
The car is now running 16psi of boost and is fueling lovely and pulls well to  big thanks to Mark for his great work :agree: also bought a phase 1 forge tank for my 5 as mark was selling it at a fraction of the price.

Good work mate, coming along nicely :agree: :)
-
Re: My Electric Blue Renault 5 GTT
Sweet. :agree:
From experience I'd have stuck with the OE airbox over a cone filter. Maybe have a play around one day to see if you can see the same difference between the two set-ups that I found.

Re: My Electric Blue Renault 5 GTT
Great work. Your car is coming along nicely. :)

Re: My Electric Blue Renault 5 GTT
Looks spot on.
Colour is one of my fav

Re: My Electric Blue Renault 5 GTT
Looking good mate! Is the downpipe the ones on eBay that are coming from France?
If so did it have a boss already in place for a lambda sensor??
Cheers
-
Re: My Electric Blue Renault 5 GTT
Cheers everyone :agree:Trev I prefer the sound with the cone filter don't like loud dump valves :)

Re: My Electric Blue Renault 5 GTT
Great work. :agree:
I'm still not convinced by that filter set up. It's not in a particularly good place for clean, cool air.
Can you route the pipe work down to behind the front bumper slats and mount the filter down there?
-
Re: My Electric Blue Renault 5 GTT
cool mate :agree: to tell the truth fella the intercooler does most of the work in keeping temps down and there's a big gap on the side of the intercooler which goes straight to the air cone and after taking it out last week it feels great :) all these cold air feeds and stuff on turbo cars is quite pointless

The intercooler does what it can with what it is given.
Renault designed an air box with a cold air feed and a grille to direct air upwards into its opening. They even painted the air box with heat reflecting paint IIRC. If all this were pointless then they'd have just put a suitable gauze over the turbo's intake and saved on engineering and manufacturing costs.
There is definite benefit to having a tweaked OE air intake set-up over a cone filter.
That is irrelevant however in this conversation because as long as you're happy, that's really all that counts. :agree:

:agree: I used to run a cone filter behind my intercooler.
Ive now converted to an o.e airbox as spoke about in the above post with the thermostat flap stuck over the hot feed intake and run a k&n element also.
The cold side of my intercooler and alloy carb top are now noticeably cooler with this set up.
Just my 2p worth :)

yeah i know where your coming from mate my Williams is better on the standard box then a cone but on a turbo car i find the more restrictive to a cone see how i get on :agree:

Re: My Electric Blue Renault 5 GTT
got a few bits done today flushed the coolant system for a good while need to fill up with coolant tomo and bleed once i do a water pump change to.
Changed the thermostat and bleed screws as they were leaking and causing me big issues on the m25 a few weeks ago with air in the system  had to stop 4 times and try an bleed the air out with my sock over the header tank and blowing through the header tank :o with my bonnet flapping all over the place from the lorrys while on the hard shoulder was not happy to say the least
got a few new bits to put on, will finish off tomo if the weather is ok
