nail and head hit mate, I run a 182 daily and its been faultless for 19k. just service it when needed.
mines on 122k now as well. :)
Why spend that much? My 172 is not the best, hasn't been looked after cosmetically but is mechanically sound, just wants the top mounts doing at some point and only needed service items like rear pads, handbrake cables etc for its last mot. 10mths mot, 4mths tax, 72k on the clock. Recon I could only get £800 for it!
Edit : for £900 I'd do the top mounts and deliver it to your door ;)
All advise welcome it's going to be a work car really just looking at all options really
Whilst the GTT can be a reliable work horse once up to scratch and good fun too, the older you get, the more attractive it is to get a cheap modern car for everyday use and keep the GTT for kicks. :agree:
Almost endless options at 2-3k, the list would be too long to write out. Are you after fun, economy, build quality, anonymity?
I'd get a 172/182 mate, great little car to drive and they are dirt cheap to pick up now.
I just sold mine for £1000 and that was faultless for the time i had it
For £3k you can pick up a nice E46 330 like mine. They're great cars and the sound of the flat 6 is amazing! :)
advantage to the 172/182 as well is cheaper to buy (bottom of budget) and when it does go wrong, cheap as chips to sort
not to mention share wheels with the 5 ;)
I love mine! I don't think you can get a better car for the money. I get over 30mpg on a run too.
45 in the clio ;)
I've had a 172 and it was good fun. I think for just another £1500 you've got a much better car in the 330.
Megane 225.;)
better by what measure, my point is he's going to be stretching budget to get a good one, and then by having to save a few quid on initial purchase, its going to cost when it goes wrong, which with all cars it does
where as by sticking to Renault you have the advantage of parts that fit both cars, and a familiar source of information.
Only my opinion mate but
Looks better
More power
The 3 litre 6 cylinder engine sounds awesome
Fully loaded inside, mine has full leather interior with heated electric seats, integrated sat nav and TV, cruise control etc
Make sure you buy a good one and look after it and they don't cost you that much
Bigger so more practical, boot on it is massive
I do get your point though, you will have to spend at least £1500 extra to get a good one
precisely, that's double the price, a massive difference
and as you say its in your opinion, I think they look like all German snore barges, lol! and the power means nothing as it weighs a load more so all it means is goes round corners worse and gets worse mpg ;) but spose that's the flip side of the coin, that's imo :)
Colt CZT
like modern 5 to drive, I love mine, and a fairly easy 200 brake
And returns well over 40mpg...... Love my 5 more though:)
ooo, nice curve ball :)
E36 328i sport, sensible money, decent mpg, tuneable, won't drop like a stone in value. Here's a half tidy one

BMW 330D, enjoyed the 328 I had but this is loads different :D
Loads of options for lim slips for the e36 as well.
I kinda wish I'd gone for an e36 as I've had to weld the diff on my e46
The E36 318is with LSD was a great laugh, till it ended sideways into the Nurburgring barrier :wasntme:
But I find the drive the E46 much nicer and handles better, maybe the tyres did make a bit of difference.
£646 fully comp on a 182.. My 5s only 198 to insure.. Anyone know how much the tax is a year?
£265 for tax lol..
Might be a deal breaker right there
ai that is the one slight issue with the 182's, cuz boy racer car you have to shop about for insurance, it was cheaper for me to insure a E55 AMG merc and only 20 quid more for an Aston Martin V8 Vantage, lol!
Try one out. They are awesome.
The 172s are a good price to I think it will be I don't mind either just depends what's about at the time..
800 buys you a monaco 1.7 in wales. Done 70k. Powrr steering central locking. Leather interior, grey 3owners. Classic insurance 40+mpg
Thought it would kill two birds with one stone. Reafirm your faith in a 5 and spend the rest on a holiday wiv the family. You sure need it after the headache ypuve had pal. I had lots of these cars they never break down. Great fun to drive and cheap to run.
Went in my buds 182 last night although it was not as much grin factor as the 5 and burst of power I think it's defo what I need a lot more reliable and still the fun and hopefully some track action this year.. Got my eye on a couple of 182s out there.. Just need to make my mind up now.
Are u calling 5's unreliable? Lol. Join cliosport fella. I've been told it's the place to be in the clio scene.
Will do my pal is a member so he's looking to see if there's any for sale at the mo.. So far I really like this one http://bit.ly/QYmTE4
Looks nice! Take the Nuremberg sticker off it though :D
I've got some details for a car for u bud. Pm on way
That's the only fault I could see :agree: but the ring is on my bucket list not that I'm after cracking world records but every car nut has to do it I think? Iv heard it's only cheap for a lap or two.. I know some guys here have done it..
Oh and not only dose it seem the right car check out the number plate it must be destiny lol
Woo 4 u PW
names paul woodward
That does look a very nice car for not much more than £2k. :agree:
What do you think to 325i bmw I can't believe the insurance is the same for a 318i and a 328i an advantage of being an oldy now :) I'm not bothered about the fuel as I don't exactly drive up and down the country 100000 miles full bmw service history £2600 iv always wanted a 325i granted I can't get the old f plate 325i but the newer one will do..
You can't beat the sound of a 2.5 litre straight six. I've one and I average 20 Mpg around town. I'm for ever getting dirty looks if I floor it because it sounds like I'm doing 100mph even though I'm not :D
I'm guessing mine's a newer shape to the one your looking at but that engines been going for donkeys years, it's a good one.
53 plates the one I'm looking at and the mrs is saying NO to
