Ive been having issues with idling, Turns out the idle jet keeps getting blocked, I think its dirty fuel so ive got my self some carb cleaner, cleaned all fuel lines and tank.

Now i want to make sure the carb is clean how am i best to do this? I really dont want to take it all to peices so is it posiible to make sure its all clean with the carb in one peice but removed from car?

any help great.

thanks

Its the float chamber you want to clean and keep clean. If it keeps blocking, give a good clean out and then make sure your filter is in good condition.

I used to have this problem on an old escort, constantly blocking up. A clean and inline filter later and it never happended again. Not sure you can or would want an inline filter on the 5?

thanks for reply, fitted new fuel filter, also removed tank and cleaned it out.

Just the carb left to do, So to clean float do i have to take the carb to peices? Ive just had it professionally rebuilt so if i can get away with out taking it apart id be alot happier?

thanks

You could do it in situ and just pop the top of the carb off. Atleast you could see if you have a load of crap in bottom.

Sorry to sound stupid, do you mean remove the carb top (lobster) and clean or take carb top and the top half off the carb off? If so how is this done?

many thanks again:cool:

Take the top half of the carb off.

You can see on step 4 of the carb service article the float chamber on the left and the float on the right.

Did this today, the float chamber was full of crap:sad2: So took the whole carb off and give it all a spray. hopefully this will solve the problem.
