Under accelaration, doe the engine push forwards onto the front mounts or go back on the rear??

Im' part way through building this to prevent excess bloody engine rock!

me too :) in fact I'm still finishing it at the moment :agree: what engine mount are you using? I've used the standard clio 172.. interestingly though mine actually protrudes through the turret onto some strengthening I've made, fortuantley I've coilovers otherwise I imagine it may have fouled the spring

Not sure what it is mate. Just used bits lying around the garage. It looks like a clio 16v rear mount. Unfortunately the way it is at the moment will only stop the engine moving forwards and a little backwards!:(

Good news is that my issues is the front mounts being sloppy. So power goes on, engine moves back on the rear mount, and then throws forward onto the sloppy mounts! Hopefully this should sort it.

I don't suppose you still have the original cam covering plate?

Could you not conjure up some kind of steady bar/brace from the bulkhead to the back of the engine?

like one of these

Yeah looked at these. Far too expensive for my pocket though:)

I have Andrew minus a few bits and yet to be fitted?

I'm looking for one as I don't use the top mount, but I do have the 172 mount, cover etc.

I was thinking of a steady like this

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Mini-Billet-Engine-Steady-Specialist-Components_W0QQitemZ320200770105QQcmdZViewItemQQpt ZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item4a8d74 0239&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

only choose that link as it looked gucci.

Then just knock up some mounting brackets for it and obviously get some bushes....

The problem is vibration. The mounts would have to absorb as much as possible or the dash just rattles to pieces!!

What about a steady mounted at the front of the engine low down to the subframe, to stop the bottom kicking out thus preventing the engine rocking back? if that makes sense.

i too would like to knock something up. as im sik to death of ripping rear mounts apart.

1 time it broke so bad that the engine fell to the floor. not good.

the volvo engine comes with a dampner as standard, but ive never actualy used it.

that lnk for the civi dampner looks like a good investment

I've got the perfect solution for you then :) assuming you're fitting the engine in a R5 I saw that damper setup in a vlovo 440 in the scrapper.. he wouldn't have charged more than twenty notes for the brackets and damper.. this controlled forward and backward moment.. you bolt one end to the mount that the alternator is on and the other to the strut (bit of welding required or just bang a hole in and washer it)..

in fact here's a pic :agree:

Well mount complete. It should improve things. Im also looking at including the original steady mount at the front if it will fit.
