why have 17s on a 5 it looks so daft! grinding of arches and making sure no rubbing aquires....

you will have the turning circle of an oil tanker ... yet better than my old v6

chop the arches, rub on full lock, more stress on wheel bearings, rub everytime you go over a bump, wheel spacers etc etc

personally i wouldnt even go there cause the steering will be heavy as hell, tyres cost more and you will just be ruining your car

If you get the right offset and a tyre that doesn't stick out too much on the wall then not much work is involved. I fitted a few 17's to 5's in the past and can be pretty straight forward, i found the front didn't need any mods at all on the rear the bumper lip needs trimming and also the arch lip needs trimming too.

Just to let you know i had 7x17 wheels, 205/45-17 Falken 412 tyres, 35mm offset

205/35 profile tyres on 17'' rims will fit on but you have to move the rear bumper back 20mm to stop it hiting the outside edge of the tyres the front is fine

You know it makes sense, 17's look Gash! I even think 15's look too big sometimes, but prefer the feel as I find the car skittish as fook on 13's

ever tried 14s

For some reason 14's don't look right, i took a set off my mates 5 who bought my Willies wheels and they just don't seem to look right in the arch.
