Valve guides

Can anyone tell me what the valve guide protrution from the head is supposed to be

and

what lenght the inlet & exhaust guides are machined to - to create the "shortened valve guides" in soem of these stage 3 heads etc

many will say it's bad but i flush the guides to the throat/port.:)
