View Full Version : Nearing completion
ok so im nearly finished with the rebuilding of the 5 and id like a few opinions...
currently im in the process of having a t25(tomcat unit) refurbed and fitted with a 360 thrust bearing by adam L.
my question is, what is the limit regarding boost levels of these units? would it be ok pushing 21psi.?
other mods are need you ask....
well, ive rebuilt the engine to std spec apart from having the piston crowns machined off. i also have a big front mount intercooler fitted as well as a larger radiator.
the cam is std, i had to resort back to this as the previous one (ktec) was a frappin nightmare(ask scoff & chris hebden). so how would the t25 fair up with a std cam? obviously im not going to see as much of a power increase unless i use a high lift cam, but never the less im sure i will see "some" increase in power?
obviously im going to have to fettle with the carb(really NOT looking forward to this:scared:) so im hoping someone can sort this for me regarding the 2nd stage enrichment:scratch:
i'll also be investing in an afr gauge/sensor too:agree:
what do you think? good for say 180bhp? 21psi?
opinions please.
I've seen cars with similar spec make identical power at that boost so you'd be pretty close.

What was your problem with the K-tec cam?
Our car seem to be similar. But I have the K-tec cam and a T2/T25 hybrid. Currently I'm running on nearly std boost, but I would like to reach 18psi.

i really dont know what was wrong with it, but the car just didnt feel right. it would idle all over the place and run VERY lumpy. i just removed it in the end and refitted the std cam..which ive always liked for its smoothness:agree:

I have similar feelings. But I haven't yet tried another GTT with another type of not standard cam. I do not know how it should behave on idle.
For me idle is a bit lumpy but in higher revs it seems to be good.
I have already tried to change carbu and all ignition parts to get idle smoother.
Adam said your turbo has the same a/r's and trim as Lloyd Bush's turbo, and that took 25psi and made 250bhp. There's a lot of potential there :agree:

ooeer:eek: the turbo im sending him is a stock t25 tomcat unit, i dont know what lloyd bush's turbo spec was/is?
tbh im not a big fan of really big bhp and 250bhp is far too much for me to enjoy(id forever be paranoid of something letting go:rolleyes:) but that doesnt really matter as i'll be selling the car when its all complete:cry:
Key word being potential Raj :cooter: :D

That is deffo the key word as with just a turbo you are not gona get anywhere near that bhp figure.
Lol, I didn't mean with your current setup, don't worry
well its something for the new owner to potentially think about the potential power figure they would like the engine to potentially produce with all its potentialness:cooter: :D

Regarding your 2nd stage enrichment issue... I'd start with drilling it to 1.2mm. Should be enough to fuel @ 21 psi. If not, increase it step by step to a maximum of 1.4

But of course... you will need a wideband AFR kit to be able to tell if the 2nd stage is okay...
