Hi guys and gals,

Just bought a phase II from one of the club members (nice to own one again after a 7 year gap)

Now for my problem:

My speedo is intermitant, as low speeds it jumps from 0 to the actual reading, and 50 plus it seems to read fine!

I can't remember where the speedo takes its readings from (gearbox/engine/wheel)

Can anyone shed any light on it?

Thanks in advance

Mikey.

The speedo is at the back of the gearbox by the starter motor. I'd check the connector under the bonnet (grey) held on the N/S inner wing. Failing that the connectors behind the speedo itself may need cleaning up a bit.

Yup... I had the same issue... gave the connectors that plug into the circuit board behind the instrument panel a good clean and sanded them a little and it was good to go again :agree:

Same thing happens now and then with mines, its just the connector at the back of the gauges (top left one if you look straight at it). Just give it a clean and it should be fine.

i had to remove, clean and refit my speedo to the box a few times as it kept dropping the signal.. dirt/oil/cr-p wont help with any pick up, so clean clean clean:)

Is it the grey coloured cable that runs behind the starter motor? I can't trace it any further from there, I'll have to get it up on the ramps. How does the dash come off?

The top of the dash just lifts up. 2 screws hold the speedo in place.:agree:

yeah, pull the starter out the way and you can get to it with an hex/allen key socket, theres a small clip/washer that stops it twisting about.. its a pig to mess about with but its worth cleaning:)

am i going to be able to clean my speedo pickup in the box without gear box oil leaking out of the hole whilst i take it out to clean it? also do you think its worth me taking the rear mount off as thats what im now doing. cheers
