hello, ive got the 172 engine with turbo in my r5 and am lookin at a diffrent inlet manifoild so go onto it, i want to b able to hav std bonnet as an option and the 172 inlet manifold stops this as many as u already no

im lookin at a couple of options, 1) hav a custom 1 built (not goin to b cheap) 2) std or after market inlet from another car played around with to fit the 172 head or 3) would the meganne 225 inlet manifold fit?

been told these are pretty similar engines but lookin at sum pics the inlet manifold sits nicly at the front unlike the 172 that goes over the top of the engine

any help will be great

cheers

Might be worth pm'ing Matt - Tinworm Tuning with regards to that as you know he runs the 225 engine in his 5 and he could prob advise. But I know what you mean about plenium sits to high for the 5 bonnet

I'm going to guess not, for the same reasons that you can't easily fit a 197 manifold to a 172

port design is diffrent

do u think if i had my engineer to modify my flange (172) to the 225 this would work and be effective ?

I think it could be one of the areas which helps the 225 engine produce considerably more torque than the f4r.

Whilst turbo clios put out approx 290 bhp and 270 lbs/ft a remapped 225 will put out 270 bhp and 325 lbs/ft. Whilst this won't help your gearbox it's interesting to see how a engine with exactly the same stroke bore could have different characteristics. The three areas that differ significantly are the (possibly)cams, inlet manifold and turbo/manifold.

I've actually considered the 225 rail myself but think that the only possible way will be with a custom plenum. something simple think a long cylindrical tube with ports or throttle bodie connecting it to the head.

This would definatley help you retain the stealthy look your after.

The big difference between those 2 engine's is the camshafts - they're responsible for the torque curve :)

I did consider trying to get a set but there rarer than rocky horse poop, and it would of been a bit of a gamble as I'm not sure they would of fitted.

172 camshafts are much much better though, those tiny 225 camshafts are really only suitable for the tiny stock turbo. :)

We'll see in a weeks time.

It'll either be :) or

To be honest intially I only wanted a nice sensible 230/240bhp but it's getting out of control now.

Damn you turbo power!! It like a class A narcotic!

the last thing you want is torque with a J series gearbox

tink it mite hav to b a custom jobbie like this then, any1 no of a company they wud recomend for this kind of job?

and if i went custom i cud move the throttle body to the other end so the boost circuit cud b run shorter so double bonus lol
