View Full Version : New Engine Mounts

FINALLY the new engine is finished and all is in and plumbed BUT I have noticed that the carb top, which has been modified for a while, will no longer fit under the hood!

When i bought the grill mount intercooler i had my carb top cut and re-welded to face more to the O/S of the car, when it was re-welded the bloke raised the angle of the dangle of the elbow ever so slightly, this caused the pipes and top to rub on the bonnet but i could still close it easily.

Now with everything back together and the pipes all back in the original order the bonnet is 5-6cm away from closing, it looks to be the front mount pipe attached to the carb top fouling on the bonnet!

I can only see that the new engine mounts have caused the engine to sit slightly higher than it the old perished mounts did, is this possible? If not what else could cause the height issue? Everything has gone back together correctly and the engine lines up on the mounts correctly!

Cheers Andy, everything fits perfect apart from the carb top. I have the front stabiliser bar located in the centre of the cup, this wouldnt be so if the engine was "leaned" forward, would it?

probably if it was just the rear that was wrong, the front mounts and that cup are pretty much in line.

Is it possible to loosen everything at the back and rattle the mount backwards. I don't have a standard mount to look at, but recall there being a slot in the engine mount where the rubber mount bolts on.

oh yeah, the 2 bolts that attach the rear mount to the gearbox, you can probably slacken those and move the bracket up a bit.

This was exactly the problem i had, Just out of interest where did you get the mounts from? I got mine from cgb.

In the end ive had to get rid of the lobster and go for a bbpt carb top which is a little lower. the bonnet just clear this.

Im hoping after a few miles on clock the mounts will 'settle in'.

Sounds like a bad set of rear engine mounts to me, i'd fit the correct ones to be honest rather then just swaping carb tops round to sort the problem.

I thought you'd refitted the original mounts and it was the same?

Re: Urgent help please.....
I managed to find the old mounts, i fitted them on and put the engine back in and it still sits exactly the same. (it looks to high)
i also put the bonnet on and it touches the carb top with no clearance, im sure this is not right.

Any one have any ideas please, i will post up some pics in a sec so people can see if everything looks how it should.

Thanks.

Yeah i fitted the old mounts still sat high

Like you said i compared all the new mounts with old and they were the same size.

Put a post with pictures up on here to check i had all mountings correct and if everything looked ok. All seemed ok.

Still not sure what the problem was but seems ok at the minute

Have a look hear matey http://www.rtoc.org/boards/attachment.php?attachmentid=3245&d=1249419735 i am 76% sure i have assembled mine wrong.

Part 11 i think i have put this on behind the bracket and not infront as shown in the diag. would this cause the lift of the rear of the engine................. maybe? Its worth a try i'll have a look Thursday (hopefully) :agree:
