View Full Version : Anyone going Saturday AM from SW/London

Gymnast

Just wondered if anyone is going to Nat Day from round my way on the Saturday AM as I can't make the Fri night camping now :(

I'll be going from the A406 up the M1. If anyone wants to meet along the way I will probably be stopping for petrol at London Gateway Services (between J2 and J4 of M1). If I'm going to be on track that will be sometime around 6am!

If, for some reason, my car is not track ready then that time can be pushed back. Perhaps to meet up with the Southern lot on this thread http://www.rtoc.org/boards/showthread.php?t=9079 :)

It took me 2 hours to get there last year, but that was in my Rover and my wing mirror flapping about was causing some serious aerodynamic disturbance, so I couldn't go full speed.

I guess we'll be leaving about 6 to get there for the drivers breifing.

Google maps is usually fairly generous with its distance duration, so I wouldn't rely too much on what it's quoting.

The easier solution would be to travel up on Friday ;) then you haven't got the mad rush early doors Saturday morning...plus then you can join in the fun & games that night :agree:

Bloody multimap, I will be going M23, M25 A217 into Sutton then back down A217 out on to M25 the all the way around to M1.

I wish I could go up the night before but the Mrs's is getting all moody so think I will stick with the early start on Sat,

Sweet ... well my original plan was to come for both nights, but that was scuppered by one of my mates, very inconveniently having a birthday on the Friday ... I mean, how rude!!!

Will make up for my Friday lack of attendance on the Sat night by performing my usual party trick of passing out halfway through the night as far away from where I'm meant to be as possible :) :D  :cool2:

You geeza.

Traffic permitting, and assuming you don't get lost (!), time yourself from when you leave your gaff to when you arrive at Mallory. Then marvel at the fact that you've made it there somewhat quicker than what Google/TomTom originally quoted.

Could this correlate to the fact that we don't always follow the speed limit ... once we get on our "private road" of course  :)

Reminds me of the convoy from here upto Wicksteed Park, we lost most people after half way because others were ****ing off left right and centre!

Usually when I'm on my own, I dont hang about. If I was in a convoy I would because a) people are not familiar and usually like the guidance and b) if people have other people to follow, they wont be so concerned about travelling 5miles and breaking down.

I can't wait for Saturday morning, looking forward to my drive up.

Sticking to the speed limits of course...

Adam/Dawn,

Do you want to meet at London Gateway at around 6? It's then about 30 minutes to Toddington where we can meet Ricardo.

It's then 1 hour 15 mins to Mallory Park (according to Google), so as long as we leave Toddington before 7am it shouldn't be a problem :)

Chris (RinkyDink) pm'd me earlier, although I was meant to phone him to sort out Saturday.

We're leaving basically dead on 6 to get to Mallory for 8. We probably won't be stopping to get there in time for the drivers breifing, as me and Chris are both going on track.

The main reason Dawn and I aren't going on Friday is because I finish work too late to be setting up a tent in the dark.

Fair play, I'm going on track too so have to be at the briefing as well. What I'll probably do is get petrol at Toddington and meet up with Ricardo if he wants to.
