View Full Version : metal polishing
I have a few chrome items in the bay that have got scratches etc, taht the good ol autosol cant remove. Ive heard about people using wet/dry sand paper to remvoe scratches, anybody got a run down of some grades to try etc, i dont have any kind of buffer so gota be done by hand.
All advice appreciated.

i spent ages using the meguires metal polish on my plenum and strutt brace ,came up really nice by hand so i thought , a m8 popped round with his PC buffer and gave it a quick going over using the megs polish , what a difference

Perhaps this guide will help, although the guy is polishing aluminium

Apart from getting the chrome parts re-plated there's not a lot you can do mate, sanding will make it worse & possibly go through to the metal.
If it was alloy you could rub it down with 1500/2000 wet & dry & buff it up though.
Edit - Also silvo metal polish, the wadding type works better than autosol on chrome & cheaper too.
Brasso mixed with some paraffin ;);)
