Why is the inlet plenium so small?
it holds a tad over 1.4 litres thats inclueding the inlet necks,it was previously a log type inlet before and it held 1.8litres then
Looks awesome matey, out of interest whom made or where did you get the alloy rad cover???

i think a few will follow suit with this, especially when they see what it's capable of

which and this engine?
in any case, superb work!
:goodJob:
It's a 4efte out of an Toyota starlet/glanza
Looks sweet mate, nicely done. Will it be making an appearance at the pod??
Wish it was, there's still a bit of work to be done + wiring and mapping.I will be at national day though(hopefully)
id like to know, when doing exotic engine conversions like this ie, using an engine not originally designed for the vehicle. what are the key factors you should be looking at to get the engine to "fit"?
i always found myself thinking "could i fit this engine? could i fit that engine?"
out of interest, is it possible to take for example, a lancer engine complete on its subframe and somehow bolt the lot to where the r5's subframe would be? obviously i assume its not as easy as that.!
also how do you go on with driveshafts etc?

raj, anything is possible mate.
it's usually the gearbox that causes most of the problems. Whether or not to use the engine with it's original sub-frame depends on the application. either way one would have to tackle a series of problems.
there are good examples on RTOC to take inspiration from, Scoffs VAG conversion, Matts F4R conversion and dare I say it my own F4R conversion to name a few...
Steve, excellent project mate :agree:
she lives:D a massive thanks to scoff for grafting all day and doing a really neat job of the wireing top bloke:yeah:
anyway heres a little vid of her running

Nice work, I LIKE:) I think I brought your old intercooler from ebay
thanks:)was it the grill mount?
managed to bag me self some recaro pole positions:cool: and get rid of the rocking chairs.which i think made scoff nervouse when mapping:laugh:
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c314/leylandracer/GTTOY/2010intseatswheel.jpg
also put my new renault sport sabelt steering wheel on.as it was gathering dust on top of the wardrobe.makes the intereior a bit more pleaseing to the eye now:cool:

Hey.Just a few question if you don't minde :)
What was the convenes that make you to choose this engine? From what i now it's a 1.3liter engine, yes???
I'm just curiose to now what make you to do this conversion insted of the usual Renault engine conversion made.
The exotism, light engine and possibility of tune range??
Any way nice work and waiting to see some figures :agree:
the main reason was that my brother had a glanza.and it was so fast on the private road, think the only car that beat him was a lotus exige(supercharged honda engine)and that only pulled 4- 5 car lengths:devil:,and it never let him down,it just loved punishment:laugh:
also at 1-1.1bar alot of the starlet/glanza guys seem to be getting trap speeds of 105-110mph(depending on set up) and that seems pretty good to me.considering there a bit heavier than the gtt

I understand now.So what happen with the old efi gtt engine?????You put a lot of money in it,didn't give the satisfaction that you hope????
Tnks very much for the answer and good luck with the car
with the bad weather here i thought i best make a start improveing my gtt.so first off i pulled the toyota engine out.while its out im going to get the bay sprayed, get it looking fresh:)
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c314/leylandracer/GTTOY/IMG_0154.jpg
also im waiting for some new coilovers and some 8" 320lb springs(which were recommended by gaz) so while the shocks where off thought i would give the hubs a good wirebrushing/degrease and then paint with hammerite, and clean everything else i can get to.still need to do the inner arches even though they look pretty good from the last time they were done
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c314/leylandracer/GTTOY/IMG_0152.jpg
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c314/leylandracer/GTTOY/IMG_0153.jpg
and heres the old 4efte which is going to be replaced with a 5efte:devil:will get some pics up when its collected
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c314/leylandracer/GTTOY/IMG_0155.jpg
so all in all,im going to be very busy over the next few cold/wet months:(
fancy selling the car complete once done;)
fancy selling the car complete once done;)
I was tempted at one point, but after all the time/effort I really couldn't bring my self to do it.as I know I would just want another gtt at some point
get another GTA Steve  you know you want to :crap:
Looking good even when in bits as per usual :agree:
get another GTA Steve  you know you want to :crap:

or even an a610:cool:that yellow a610 that was on pistonheads was very nice,I'm sure you could work your magic on the 3litre engine:devil:
the 5efte which is replacing the 4efte

There is a Toyota Starlet Glanzia that competes in my class at some of the NW speed events.
At Barbon Hill climb it was awsome and ran seriously quick times then they seem to have problems with it at other venues with too much lag and brake issues.
im sure ive seen that car on the tgtt forums.didnt really think they were upta much in the corners,i always seemed to beat my brother on the twisties when he had his glanza.suppose anything can be improved:)
another little update, picked this gearbox up the other day and its fitted with a trd hellical lsd
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c314/leylandracer/Ren%20Toy/Gbox1.jpg
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c314/leylandracer/Ren%20Toy/GBox2.jpg
and it didnt look that clean when i picked it up:(anyway it should help me in the corners:devil:
another little update:)my gazgold shocks turned up:Dbut need to order some 2 1/2" top caps as my old ones are 2 1/4"
also got my compbrake adjustable topmounts
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c314/leylandracer/Ren%20Toy/IMG_0238.jpg
the only other concern i have is when the top mount is fully seated on the rod.the rod doesnt sit flush with the top of the bearing,is this a prob or am i been daft

i hope you have a ph1 setup matey as these dont work with ph2 suspension gives crazy positive camber:sad2:
i had this problem with my old setup(ph2) thats why i ordered ph1 gaz golds.so i shouldnt have any probs:agree:
some more progress:)its nearly finished, well apart from mapping.just need to sort a bracket out for the throttle cable.and sort the cam cover out.also found out the 5e head has alot more meat on it so i cant use my devil strut brace,as it catches the throttle body:cry:but i will sort that at a later date
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c314/leylandracer/GTTOY/03engine.jpg
also give her a clean today as i was a bit bored
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c314/leylandracer/GTTOY/03side.jpg
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c314/leylandracer/GTTOY/03front.jpg
that is seriously gonna shift with a 5e!!! :D:agree:
what turbo and boost are you running? or going to be running :)
It's a hybrid td04 and I'm hopeing to run 1.3-1.4bar,to be fair I think the turbo is a tad to small,I really could do with a tdo5 16g but that will have to come at a later date.
Stunning :agree:
What kind of power do you expect on the current setup?
Not sure, they reckon the turbo is capable of 270bhp on tgtt.I have my doubts??prob just keep upping the boost until it's :scared:maxed out

Very nice matey! What radiator is that? Does it cool ok?
WOW! Attention to detail is amazing looks like it just rolled off the production line. What profile tyres are you running with your pro races?
Very nice matey! What radiator is that? Does it cool ok?
It's a civic radiator matt,it's a popular mod on starlets/glanzas when fitting aftermarket exhaust manifolds.and they never have issues with cooling.it's almost identical size to a r5 gtt rad

Cheers mate,there 195/50/15 888,s
Ill be keeping an eye on this project :) if im not wrong my mate gary baught your old engine for his starlet :D
Yeah I'm sure he was called Gary.has he got it up an running
Another update, after my clutch pedal and cable failing due to my new uprated clutch, scoff recommended a hydraulic clutch setup,so after gathering all the parts and getting a mate to mod the standard clutch pedal.it is now fully working, and the pedal feels great although fairly heavy
I will get some pics up later:)
Still a few little jobs to do and then hopefully I can make frog of pod
Yeah I'm sure he was called Gary.has he got it up an running
just read what you said ...aye he got it running :D ..now mot'd as far as im aware :)
nice work with the 5 ...be interesting to see what times you will run at pod :smokin:

Really nice work Tubs. I know that a lot of people say that the C1J is part of the GTT character but, I think a modern engine is all that is needed to take the GTT to the next level, plus the fact that you probably get a better gearbox thrown in the deal too!
Great build. :agree: Any power figures? :)
The car was stripped, and the shell belongs to matt c now,on the 4efte it made around 220hp and I'm not sure what it was making on the 5efte as it was live mapped.sometimes wish I hadn't of sold it when I look at this thread:cry: oh well
So i mite be being thick but whos car was this i think its amazeing was it yours steve
My account expired(tubby5),so I use my dads account now and again, thanks it was a very nice 5.
I take it you dont have a renault turbo anymore so how hard was it to do the toyota conversion and most importantly what sort of price was it to get it in an running
It wasn't as expensive as you think, really can't remember, but I also had a lot of parts from my previous setup(adaptronic, chargecooler, fuel related parts etc) I reckon it cost me around grand, and that was for the engine/gearbox and other bits and fitting of the engine,a mate did the welding/fabrication(mates rates of course:D)
There was quite a lot to modify, both chassis legs had to be taken in a bit, front cross member cut and extended forwards, driveshafts cut n shut, engine mounts made up etc.would I go down this route again if I had another gtt- hell yeah, there is much tuning potential for the little 4efte,and it made it unique
I had an ep82 starlett i loved it so realiable i hammerd it everywhere i just think you did such a tidy conversion so what you got now
My brother had a few starlets and glanzas, the glanza being 268hp and it was rapid and like you say reliable,
I've got a supercharged s2000,well it was supercharged as I've just sold the kit,and I'm waiting for a turbo kit to arrive from the states:devil:
What sort of power will that kick out then
Hopefully somewhere between 500-550hp
