View Full Version : volvo 1.7 turbo engines ?
i know they were something like 120bhp fitted to volvo 440 and 480s.
wondering what would be the absolute maximum power to get out of
one of them engines ??
is 300bhp possible ?
hi there
300 bhp will cost buckets of cash
if you aiming for 250 bhp, it is less expensive.
a friend has a b18ft with kms system and some other goodies (turbo from a VW TT i believe) and pushes around 270 bhp

richard got 350bhp out of a supercharged and turbocharged 1.7 engine. dunno what happened to it, or exactly how reliable it was.
engine of richard is fine , only the car isn't :)
whos this richard.?

is that 250 bhp with standard engine internals ?
Richard is a guy on the volvo 480 forum ,,he mods the ecu.
I recon that 230 240 can be done with orginal internals , but you need an uprated clutch

rich pruen springs to mind  i remember that name from my old lurking
days over at volvo 480 forum , iirc one of his chips get 180bhp out
of the standard 120bhp car .

I've delt with some rich mods, they wern't very nice to look at, sorry. Soldering and choice of components was not elegant, but they worked fine enough though.
I know this will sound like a pitch, but I can still offer modified timing modules. They are a little more agressive than Rich's, mine remove the boost limit completely (without interrupting normal driving values).
300hp will be very hard. With with the wilder N/A camshaft they stop making power at about 230hp. You will probably need some good cylinder head work and a nice camshaft to get anywere near 300hp.
Sparkie, as for 350hp, I have severe doubts about that.

Would love to see some pictures of that engine. Bet it sounded crazy as well, the Lancia Delta S4 springs to mind :)
