Ok so if im right i have turned this on its side and measured with tape measure that the head in front of me 1s 73mm.

Does that sound right? have i measured the right bit?

Sounds right to me. A set of verniers would probably be more accurate, but the tape measure will be fine. :)

if i was you i would make sure what width/depth it is,a tape measure
isnt the most accurate method,you want to make sure or you could
have problems with compression...

Hmmm ..I'd use a steel rule at the very least .A tape measure is OK for woodwork but .......

yeah but does he know,inaccurate measuring...your going to need
a steel rule as clee says minimum....
