hi folks, im looking into saving up to buy a caterham 7 in the not too distant future for track use
thing is i know there are kit car replicas out there that would cost a lot less than a caterham, does anyone point me in the right direction regarding these replicas?
cheers
dude speak to james, i believe him and his friend both owned either the real thing or the replicas.. I know he spoke once about how they used the cossie engine in one but he seems well clued up on them..

i havent much experience,
basicly, a caterham willbe a factory kit car, were as the replicas are home made i belive, meaning you may find your self forever replacing parts that are bodged or going wrong
tho if your going to buy one, buy a r500, dam there quick!!

will do matey, it would be good to chat with him cause its been a while anyway
im thinking a group of mates round on a sunny hot weekend, bbq going, and building up a kit car would be pretty damn awesome!
Locust ftw, my mate has one with a old 1.6 Alfa Romeo DOHC engine. Great fun.
And a good build quality.

the locost ones are pretty bargain basement stuff.
i fancied the full bodied look of the fisher fury.

you will have trouble fitting into most kitcars, the wide bodied caterhams and westfields are expensive too. the fisher was good to sit in at the kit car fair i went to.
5alldaway- ive meet you briefly a few times, your over 6 foot tall right? will you fit in a caterham?

westfields seem to go quite cheap and some are factory built, some sold as kits, wscc.co.uk has loads of info. Was looking to get 1 but things have changed for the worse a bit so not on the cards now
Locost, basic chassis, suspect rear suspension geometry and lots of work but cheap. Mine hasn't been cos' I got carried on engine spec but that's up to the builder. Have a look at some kit mags to see what's available, have you seen an Ultima spyder?
I've been looking at caterhams aswell, but they are expensive for what they are, and you could pick up a westfield with the same power and a bit more spec for 3-4k less than a caterham. I've always liked the bike engined kit cars, my cousin had a westfield megablade and currently has a westfield megabusa. I've had a couple of passenger rides in the megabusa at Knockhill and the acceleration is phenomenal. A couple of years ago they were around 12-14k, now you can pick up a good one for 10k. I don't know much about the locost, i quite like the mk indy aswell. My cousins old megablade is for sale on pistonheads just now and i'm seriously tempted. I'm not sure what your budget is, although here is my best picks of the classifieds.

someone local to me has built a westfield spent a fortune doing it but when i said about doing one (instead of the 5) he pointed me onto these that i personaly think are quite sexual :D lol
