rear brake compensator siezed

On the J plate R5 i have brought the rear brake compensator appears to be ziezed. Is it usually possible to free these up, or is it a case of buying and fitting anotehr one?

I completely soaked mine every night for a few days in wd 40 and it its ok now so its worth a try

no just 1 there expencive and two they dont usserly take to beeing unseized, i dont know why reno left them so open beeing cast iron

Think i paid around the £70 mark for one but that was few years ago.

Actually i think i still have that one in the garage as i removed it when i scrapped the car, happy days:)

it depends how long its been seized for. if your going to have a go then soak it in wd and just try and work it little by little. it should free up, mine did, but bear in mind if it breaks youl have to get a new one.

There is only one out of the two that were produced availible. One had one coil in the spring to the rear beam and the other had 2/3 coils in the spring, its the one coil version thats unavailible.

I say this with great confidence :crap:, but i looked about a month ago and couldnt find the one i needed, using all the parts suppliers that i know and brakeparts.co.uk.

what is it that actually siezes up on it. forgive my ignorance as ive never messed aroudn with them , and only looked briefly at it once.

Reason i know its siezed as when it was on the ramps my mate had a look at it.

Is it somthing inside that actually siezes for the mechanism itself?

the joint its self rusts over stopping its movement mines slightly siezed but ive push mine right forward as i like the lightness it gives on tight braking corners
but think its atturly worked its way back as its not so snappy on the back,
could come round top off brands hatch hit the brakes and get the rear in to a little slide to dive the nose in

Ill be honest mate, this post has relly confused me. :s

I understand the first sentence but im a bit confused about the whole brands hatch business etc

well im saying i pushed mine back and it gives more % to the rear, but has worked its way forward again,
just passing comment!!

i swapped mine at the weekend, both compensators came off without to much fuss but be very carefull when you refit it that you dont cross thread the pipes into the compesator. also make sure the compensator is held right in when bleeding the brakes after to ensure they bleed correctly then adjust to normal position.

its luck of the draw as to how difficult it is to swap and how good you are at putting things right incase you snap a pipe union etc.

Be very carefull on giving advise on things that could put someone elses life in danger. What works for you might not work for someone else.

no worries, i have all the tools with regards to flaring pipes, and unions, ane benders etc..

bit of an update.. the compensator came free :D
