No. But you must still have the seatbelts fitted if you DO have seats in place.

Thought i'd jump on and ask a question if thats alright...

The wife's car is going in for its MOT this afternoon. No major issues that I can see bar one problem.. a crack in the windscreen. Is anyone SURE of the rules reagrding them? One version I read says it cant be within the wiper reach, another says it cant be within the 'width' of the steering wheel on the screen and another says it cant be anywhere if its above a certain size.

Any ideas peeps?

Tim it all depends on which side of the car it is, if its in the swept path on the drivers the crack cant be any bigger than 5p piece, and if its on the passengers side, in the swept path i think its max size 10p piece

Cheers Chris. The mark itself is within the passenger side wipe and from memory its smaller than a 10p so hopefully will be ok. Im just concerned that the garage will try to be funny about it seeing as my wife knows feck all about cars.

Dont want to stereo type all garages here, but the chances are they will. The best bet if that happes get them to show her the "bible" with the correct wording and the measuring device they used, basically get them to prove it!

:agree: Will do mate. I usually deal with the cars myself, but just dont have time at the moment.

I really feel sorry for women that get the run around, but theirs nothing like watching a well educated (in terms of cars) female sticking two fingers up at a cheeky MOT tester! FIGHT THE POWER :yeah:

I thought it was any crack is an MOT failure, any chip over the size of a couple of mm within zone A of the windscreen which is the drivers side wiper (unsure on that part) is a failure as well.

Clearly you're unfamiliar with the 'twigs' currently fitted to her 106

Yeah but it would get you through an mot! mot tester can't say anything if the crack is outside the swept area i.e. make the swept area smaller! re-fit old wipers after! ;)

I had 1 seat & a harness last time my car was MOT'd
Passed fine. They had a comment on the MOT sheet that it was fitted with 1 seat & a rollcage.

if the car left the factory with seat belts fitted they must remain in the car, as the log book wiil state the car can carry 4 passengers they will expect to see 4 seat belts.

it's down to the tester at the end of the day as the certificate states the car was road worth at the time of test, there's nothing stopping you removing them as soon as it's left the garage. so good mood = pass, grumpy = fail
