say for instance the car could handle and could be set for any level of boost, what would the maxuimi=um safe constant boost of a t2 be

and the max safe boost of short burst saying 12/13secs (1/4m)

aslo just as a bit of info what can a t2 boost before topping out, say if the wastegate was wealded and external used, i ask becasue when my boost controler failed it shot the boost over 25psi and didnt do any lasting damage

ok, some may remember i was convinsed my carb was set up for 18/20 psi, and hesitates like buggery off boost, but said my air correcter may be at fault,

well fook me, just set it to 20psi

thats quick!!! didnt hesitate one tiny bit and didnt sound like before were the engine tone was looking for more boost, if that makes sence,

so i ask would it be safe to run a t2 at 20psi, i drive around sensibly when my kids are in the car, i genrealy potter about but give it the occasonal beans in a gear but never usserly past 50 so say 7/8seconds a time, and i wouldnt ever let it over heat,

I wouldn't use a T2 at 20psi for the pure fact that the temps of the compressed air coming out would be very high and also it'll be working way too hard to produce that pressure, i'd run a turbo with a bigger compressor housing at least to run those boost pressure's

same hear! at 20 psi the charge temps will be high, i ran a t2 at 22psi manifold for a good long while with no issues untill it started squirting oil out of the breather filter! the charge temps where too high and that caused the oil control ring on the pistons to shrink:scared: i would say 18psi max;)

ok 18 it is, so were on the gaudge would we say 18 psi is?

I wouldn't even say that, i prob run no more than 16psi on a standard turbo but thats my own opinion.

im sure 18 psi is off the std guage. how are taking a reading of how much boost your running.

Your right 18psi is right off the guage.

Dont you have a separate boost gauge?

will be, and yes i know had it off the gaudge, and it ran well but the turbo was fluttering on boost! so i stopped!

I have a external boost gauge plus hose.. £13 delivered..

but in your second post down you said you just set it to 20psi how do you know that if you havnt got a acurate guage plumbed in:coffee:

just guessed, well was 1 needle with pass the end, and thats around 18/20psi

Is it?

The OE gauges aren't even that accurate, and is your car set to run that sort of boost at the carb, or at the manifold? Just get an aftermarket boost gauge.

Also remember if you plumb it into the manifold you get the boost reading that the engine is actually getting, it will be a few psi more at the turbo, so 18psi at the turbo will probably be around 16psi manifold. So if you run 18psi at the manifold on a t2 your charge temps are still going to be very high as the turbo will be at 20ish psi.

You lose a few psi as the pressure runs through the hoses/cooler/carb e.t.c.

:edit: Guessing is no good either:wasntme: your'e playing a very risky game doing that;)

yer it is mate has bigger jets

it isn't quite that simple unfortunately.

yer it is mate has bigger jets

'Yer' isn't the answer to a multiple choice question, and as Scoff says - it isn't as simple as just having larger jets.
