anyone know the thread size on track rod end or the tie rod pls ?

changed the track rod end the other day due to old one going slightly bent
after a track day a few months back .
track rod end unscrewed with a lot of trouble(scaffolding tube)
as the female threads inside the
tie rod were knackard which i believe happened when the garage that done
the tracking on my car used a blow torch to undo the lock nut etc (heated & cooled too fast ) .

anyway ,i managed to get the track rod end out but the new one is giving me
grief going in as well due to fooked threads in tie rod .

i was thinking of finding a tap same size as the tie rod threads and clean the
insides using that .

any better ideas muchos appreciated :)

If you can find a nut the same size im guessing 12mm, run that up and down first, with some oil, that used to work a treat on holding down bolts at work. That way you can get a ratchet on it. Unless you have die set, then im just babbling. ;)

i did apply some moly grease to the threads of the new track rod
but still it takes me a lot of hassle to screw it in there .
when i unscrewed that out the top of the threads were kinda flattish too :crap:

Is the tie rod slightly bent to? that would cause a problem.

no the tie rod is nice and straight , the bent bit on the old track rod
end was on the exposed threads .

i think the thread is m14 x 1.5 on the rod , i will take the lock nut with me
and check if any local factors have the right tap . than i can fit another
track rod and get tracking done .

i got a tie rod end but dont really fancy changing it (its a bitch to do on the car ,i will have to take the whole rack out ) especially when the old one
is working fine with no play in the ball joint etc .
