just wondering, to all renault rads come in alloy core and copper core.?

i ask because my current one being a 1.9d extra van rad is alloy core but the one ive just got hold of ,a mk1 clio 1.9d rad is copper core! thing is im sure ive seen this clio rad with an alloy core too:scratch:
im not liking the look of this copper one ive just bought so im sending it back as i was expectin an alloy core.
just had a quick look on ecp website and the clio rad they sell seems to be of the alloy varient.!

Im sure the standard rads used to be alloy. All the standard 5 i've had where alloy/silvery colour. Copper core was " the uprated ones" apparently ;)

the renault rads are made by valeo and they are alloy ,maybe the clio ones are copper ,but standard valeo ones are alloy:)

The original rad on my extra was copper core & the rad on my old 1.9d clio was copper. Not sure what make they were, Possibly ordonez?

Anyway its no big issue imo, will do the same job. They were both built a lot better than the flimsy gt turbo copper core rads.

what a fuk around:rolleyes:

had a mk1 clio 1.9d rad delivered on monday from eurocarparts,
opened it up to find it was covered in a glue/oil like substand down one side:disagree:

also, im unsure if this is right or wrong but the fins on this ecp rad are very thin like paper wafer thin! if you rub you finger across them they flex!
the last clio rad which i purchased from a different seller which i had to send back had fins which where hard like the gtt rad:scratch:

any cause for concern.?

RIIGHT!!

received the repkacement mk1 clio 1.9d rad from ecp and it seems alot better quality than the first one they sent me.

as mentioned in a prev thread, i have been using a mk1 1.9d extra van rad and my temps seemed abit high using this, this was not due to air or anything else but was told by someone who has tried and tested this rad that even though it is a Hell of alot bigger than the oe rad it doesnt seem to cool as effective due to the coolant travelling within the core in a different route! was stated it also travels quicker thus not allowing the fins to absorb the heat as effectively.

now ive just fitted this mk1 clio 1.9d rad which looks almost identical to the extra van rad, the ONLY difference is that the clio rad isnt as tall. and the temp is still basically the same as when the extra van rad was fitted:brickwall:

thing is, ive never had the car out on the road.the car has just been ran sat in the garage so im unsure if im expecting the car to run abit cooler:confused:

with both the extra and clio rad the temp would rise slowly to the 2nd to last bar on the dash gauge before the rad fan kicks in to bring the temp down smack in the middle of the gauge. does that sound right for a car thats not on the move:scratch: its been that long since ive drive a 5 i cant remember. this car hasnt done any road miles since its rebuild.

also while where talking about rads, does anyone have any ideas if the following ALLOY rad are infact the same rads just sold by different sellers? im contemplating buying one but dont want any old cheap rubbish

You need to take it out for a drive to see if it cools ok when driving. Ticking over on the drive will only give you an indication of how well the rad fan works.

As said in previous threads the fan will come in at a higher temp on the gauge due to the size of the rad. Id say its ok if its not boiling over?

With std switch the rad fan usually comes on just under the 2/3 mark on o.e gauge taking it back to half way at cutoff. I wouldn't take the o.e gauge too seriously as they all read differently imo.

Get an o.e rad plumbed back in, Mine in the van with the oil cooler connected only went just above half way at rockingham. No probs with coolant temps at all even running 18lb boost;)

"With the oil cooler connected" did you mean a seperate one or the built in one

Brigsy
25-06-2009, 11:37
i meant the oil cooler built into the rad.

When the o.e one is more than upto the job, I can't see the reason for buying the shiny sh1t, but that's just me.

i agree totally:agree: hence ive never bought one. just mearly asking if anyone has had any good results from them? but yes a fresh oe rad is fine.

also can someone confirm if THIS (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/RENAULT-5-GT-TURBO-RADIATOR-COPPER-CORE-NEW_W0QQitemZ380132104147QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Car sParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item5881a397d3&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A10%7C66%3A4%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318%7 C301%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A200) is a alloy cored rad or a copper core as its advertised:scratch: looks alloy to me? gsf error.?

well after ALOT of emails simply asking where this rad is manufactured and getting no reply they can keep there custom:jerkoff: i was asking about THIS (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140330894566&ssPageName=MERC_VIC_RCRX_Pr4_PcY_BIN_IT&refitem=130314336014&itemcount=4&refwidgetloc=closed_view_item&usedrule1=CrossSell_LogicX&refwidgettype=cross_promot_widget&_trksid=p284.m183&_trkparms=algo%3DCRX%26its%3DS%252BI%26itu%3DSI%25 2BUCI%26otn%3D4) rad. i really dont understand sellers sometimes! dont they want to sell there items:scratch: not that i was going to buy it anyway, was just asking them if the rads are manufactered in china?
so just abit of a warning for anyone wanting to buy from this seller "mk1custom" as they do not reply to any emails:jerkoff:

Can you get a few close up pictures of the welds? I was looking at their double capacity intercooler but, i'm vary wary of the quality of construction (welding) on stuff from china.
