Rust

Just wondering on what seems to be the best solution to getting rid of rust on the rear quarter, just on the radius, where the panel folds over to meet the bottom of the window.

It's starting to get quite bad now so I was thinking that it could be worth removing the window and cutting out the radius.... then welding a new section (with the bend on it) in it's place.

I heard someone mentioning a new panel on another thread... any ideas on how much a decent body shop would charge to remove and fit? I'd paint it myself.

if you can get a good repairist id get it done with out new pannle.

unwelding it all the re welding it.... plus new pannle cost... oh god that loads!

Any pics ? is it bad like mine?

Hmmm, yeah, if it's going to be a work up replacing the panel, I may have ask a mate if he can weld in a new section in it's place. The rest of the panel looks ok....

Well I had the same thing , I cut the rust out and also treated it with a rustconverter there is loads on Market then I used
fibre glass bit of panel Beating and welding also depends how bad it is pics ?

I'll get some pics up, but at the moment there's 3 spot on the fold. One is around 2 inches long and the other 2 around around an inch. They've bubbled up quite badly, but I'm not sure if it's gone all the way through yet.

once ground back it may look like mine :) if you dont mind about the paint work to much as a first step, pop the window out and rubbers and rub back and see what you find :) then from that mr body shop will have a clearer idea of what to expect

being cut out the the guy is making a pannel up for it him self.

Yeah, I've been there before (grinding back a bit of surface rust to reveal a gapping hole!). :(:D

Fortunately, it does seem pretty isolated, but I'll take you advise and pop the window out to have a better look.

Just want it out before it gets worse and worse.

the only way supes is to window out and check. you may not have a water proof car though after so be mindful of that.

The only way to get rid of rust is to cut it out + back into the good metal, then weld in a new section, cut a setion out of a late model Campus.

If you do need new rear quarters or anything, im sure mike has some knocking about ;)

Cool... maybe I'll start with a grinder and see how far back it goes. Finger's crossed it won't go back to the window.

If it does come out, I wonder if you can get perspex replacements? May aswell do both for a bit of weight saving.
