Hi Guys.
Wasn't sure where this would get more interest so I've put in here as well as the GT Turbo section.

I'm really interested in buying another Renault 5 GT Turbo - Been 20 years since I owned my last!

I've found something close to what I am looking for - 91H, 80 odd thousand miles and oodles of history. The car itself sounds OK, but attached are the close-ups of the only rust on the car.

Not the worst I've seen, but given the position of the front screen rot, how difficult would it be to remedy? I know a verrry good bodyshop/painter so it doesn't completely scare me off.
It's the history and running condition of the car that attracts me.

Would you buy it in this state?

Any help gratefully received.

Thanks!

That doesnt look to bad buddy , id be more concerned with wether or not the sills, floor pan , rear arches etc etc match that or worse, still if is a good price then maybe it will even its self out money wise, id spend time lookin around it and possibly jack it up on every corner { if theyll let you} if it feels to big a project go with your gut feeling and look elsewhere, personally i like a challenge and love to see another GTT gracing the roads again..:) {normally @ my cost..:laugh:}

It depends how much it is ;) Budget at least £400 for those repairs to be done properly though...

I think there is two of these threads running?

As Richie says, get a new surround as alot of repairs don't last long. I have had a few 5s with rust around the window and there isn't alot of room to around the screen to be cutting rust out so hard to make sure you have got it all.

all depends on the price of the car really , how much is it ?

As for getting a new surround, until the windscreen is out and the rust rubbed back you dont know the extent, do that see if its repairable, failing that i know mike can get hold of windscreen surrounds ;)

Thanks to all who have replied. I knew it would be worth the 25 quid when I signed up this morning! You're all Gods in your own right!

I was rather disappointed (but not surprised!) when I saw the rust snaps.

So come one then; Who wants to take a stab at what should be paid for this thing in its current state then?

06-Jun-09 at 14:35:03 BST, seller added the following information:

I have been asked by afew people to describe the issue on the windscreen surround in more detail,
A common renault 5 problem, it has previously been rusty and repaired, this is now ready to be repaired again, A job for a professional bodyshop, please bear this in mind when bidding.

I have started and got the car out of the garage today & noticed a couple of things, I previously wasn't aware of. the central locking motor on the drivers side needs replacing, the stereo doesn't want to work for some reason, and the speedo is intermittent, this is a common renault 5 problem, and is easily fixed, it's usually the electrical connector the gearbox or at the back of the clocks. it has done no miles like this, it was working fine when I last drove it anywhere.

genuine 80k miles ??

Quite - Even if it's got all the MOTs they're only going to confirm the mileage displayed by a faulty speedo!

Where do you think it should be price-wise?

At £1,950 is it already too much?

Bearing in mind the stated history (and I mean stated) and condition in the listing, I've just paid £2,550 for it on the Bay.

If it turns out to be exactly as described I should have a mint car by the time I've done the rot and the little bits and pieces for £3k.

If when I go to get it it's not as described then I won't obviously be paying £2,550 for it!

I'm intending to keep it forever.

On the basis of everything above, do you think I should call the men in white coats to come and get me, or is the price right???

I know, I know; There's a fine line between bravery and stupidity....

The car's been very comprehensively described, particularly now the pics have been supplied.

If it turns out to be different upon arrival and after a drive, then the deal's not complete is it?

I'm really after an opinion as to whether the car is value (not a "bargain") when factoring in age, stated condition, and the wodge of history and provenance that comes with it, and the fact I'm not looking for a profit from it but to keep the thing.

What does everyone think?

As Richie says something is worth whatever someone is willing to pay. As long as your happy with it, money is only money. These cars are kept going purely out of love, if money was an issue their would be none left!
