Agreed. I let my subscription to PPC runout, as it seemed more about doing everything on a budget of 2p, even if what your left with is an ugly embarrasment that will leave you stranded at the services. I hate reverse snobbery against a decent paint job and set of wheels, and thats their default setting.

As for what they are building, sorry lads, I was reading about Mrk2 Escorts getting tuned 20 years ago, and Roly Hayes and Mark Tucker were doing it better than you lads ever could. Games moved on a bit, ya hear? It's like the late 80's/90's, and all the fantastic drivers cars they produced, never happened.

SO, these days, I'll buy whatever mag, based on even just one decently written article, that actually interests me.

But month on month loyalty? Not one of them deserves it right now IMHO.

If you want to advertise, and make it work, then I would go with linked ads through Ebay. Just make sure your prices are on the ball, and you will make sales. The fact that a search on ebay has brought your link up, means you already have a buying signal from the customer, so if your webpage looks good enough, and your prices are keen, you WILL close the sale. And its 24/7 advertising - think on it, how much time do you spend on the 'net as opposed to reading a magazine? What advert do you think is working harder for you?

With ads in magazines these days, I just skip over them, they dont even register with me. Why? Because there are too many of them. The pages are saturated with them, hence, their impact is minimal.

Plus, these days, if I need/want to buy something, my first research tool isn't a dog eared old mag, its the 'net, be it via google, or if its for the 5, here. I suspect most of my generation and younger do the same.

Spend your advertising budget wisely young Kenobi ;) Be suckered not by blyth statitics from salesmen using figures compiled 5 years ago from outwith a web savvy demographic.

:agree::agree:

Kenobi, you will be amazed how much advertising cost in a mag and you get sweet F/A in return.

There is much better ways to get your company out there.

I really wouldnt bother with a show car either unless you have a turn over of £100k+

Often a "tuners" show car is a customer's and nothing to do with the Tuner except a discount on Rates & products.

I am not 100% what your company does Kenobi, but the real easier money would be selling to the trade rather than individual's.

Trade customers such as garages will do the hard sale for you & you would only need 100+ garage sellings your stock to get decent regular sales rather than going after the mass's.

I'll abstain from using the quote, to save the bandwidth, but Penfold above is spot on.

Can you afford to employ salespeople? No.

Get 100 garages pushing your product, you suddenly have 100 salespeople, working for you for the equivalent of commission only were you hiring.

Building a 'show car' is usually more about the company owner trying to flog snake oil to the gullible and his or hers own wet dream. Customers do the talking, not a Zymol'd trailer queen with dubious claims that really only has impact with 14 year old kids that know no better.

Thanks for the advice there Billy and Penfold. I have been in contact with some magazines and yes it is expensive.

Im keeping my options open. A show car would be ace but im reaistic so im giving myself parts at cost and playing about with my Colt. I cant burn profits until the economy picks up. My plan is to build up some local rep over the next year. Then maybe 12 to 24 months time start to play a bit more seriously. I really need experience, not only in performance products but generally in sales and after service.

You can see a lot of my threads are in fact questions a bit like market research but that s because on here and some other forums theres a handful of peeps who I would trust totally. You guys know who you are.

You comments and opinions are appreciated dudes.

So who else reads car magazines?
