Just got it to work and found it won't rev over 3k when driving, just keeps dumping. I know the fuel mixture needs setting, but is it that it or a vacuum pipe or similar?

If it is the fuel mixture what should it be set up to?
also found fuel leak from the aux fuel pump, are they prone?
Really need the advice cheers

Anyone? Could it be a vacuum pipe on wrong or something like that? The engine was out nearly 2 years, so think everythings ok, i'll post some pics up later if anyone can help?

u ever changed the plugs, leads, distributer cap and arm?

Plug leads, dirty fuel filter, dirty carb, vac pipes leading to the AEI a fault with the diaphragm in the AEI?

yeah its got new plugs ,leads, distributer and rotor arm :(

got a new aux fuel pump coming on tuesday for it, so had to leave it at work for the weekend up in the air. also found an oil leak from the rocker cover so i removed it and cleaned and put a bead of silicone along the gasket to seal it.

check your air corrector jet is still there

Heres a selection of pics of the carb, is there anyone who can check these against theirs to see if all my pipes are on correct??

check your air corrector jet is still there
this happend to me on the way to pod could only get 2.7k revs in each gear.
it did give out a simular feeling like it was missing.
so maybee worth spending 5 mins taking the carb top off & having a look.

i took her upto 60mph this morning then wouldn't go any faster, just kept dumping the valve and wouldn't rev any higher?!

weren't sure if it could've just been the aux fuel pump leaking so not getting the fuel up properly, but just feels like more then that

ok see in pic 2, this small screw fell out on the way to pod could only get just over 2.5k revs in everygear,
and in pic 1 you see the small brass hole, there shold be like what looks like a small screw in there (air corrector), its missing out of mine at the moment, and i get exactly 3k revs and then it feels like its missing so may be worth checking theys.

k i'll have a look for that when i go back into work and see if its there at all? one thing also i did notice is that after switching off the engine runs on a little and pops aswell, sounds almost like over fuelling, and when i did take the carb top off it seems a bit sooty in there and don't remember it being like it when i put it on

The pipe on the block on the rh side of carb (from front of car) Where does it go to?

The pipe on the block on the rh side of carb (from front of car) Where does it go to?

Looking at the pic its connected to the double T piece which the fuel presure reg is connected to, think that will be your problem mate as its putting boost pressure onto the diaphram in the enrichment circuit when its meant to have atmospheric pressure there.

Thats what i thought marky, hard to tell on the pics though.

You can just make it out on one of the last pic's ;)

do you mean this pipe?!

if so then it goes here

if this is wrong then where should it go. where should any of the pipes go?

all help is appreciated

that pipe u circled is just a breather
i think the problem u have is not carb related at all as ive had a similar problem on 1 of my 5s
i think its the tdc wire that will make it ither just rev or stall etc check the wires aint burnt through and check there in good nick

bah, that's a big problem!

that pipe should be open to atmosphere, normally the pipe runs from the right hand side of the carb and drops down in front of the engine, with the end open.

you have it connected into the regulator reference pipe, which will effectively mean there is a leak in that pipe, which might cause low fuel pressure and maybe the missfire. either way, it needs changing.

block the port on the T piece so that the regulator pipe doesn't have a leak, then route the pipe from the carb right hand port as described above.

also that carb looks very dirty inside or is it just the pics

so i need to run the pipe from the right hand side of the carb so as its not connected to anything and releases to air, and block up the t-piece end where its connected now then??

it was all cleaned through when i put it on, but when i had the carb top off yesterday i noticed it seemed awfully ****ty inside, not sure if its from where its been misfiring or having the pipe wrong?? gonna clean it through when i put it back together

so many pipes lol

that pipe on the front of the carb goes to atmosphere. so disconnect it fron the t piece and block the t piece off

Probably wrong, but shouldn't the pipe on the actuator got to the front port?

FurioKid

out of interest which pipe should normally go to that t-piece then??

i am running the cup mod so i presume is it one of those pipes??

standard boost gauge should goto that T.

FurioKid
08-06-2009, 23:51
ah right cheers just wondered lol, i've put in a replacement t-piece with just one outlet so as it looks tidier but gotta wait for the new fuel pump to turn up tomoz then road test tomoz, all being well i'm hoping its sorted it out

i'll post up hopefully tomoz night once i know how it runs ok :)

K well i've replaced the aux fuel pump, changed the t-piece and pipes, checked the TDC wiring which seems fine, checked the air corrector jet and it appears to be there? The only thing i can see is that the little lever on the side of the carb, that has a spring attached to the throttle, was stuck! Whipped the carb top off and it appears to squirt the fuel from the float chamber. Lubricated and worked the lever a bit to loosen it, do you think this could cause it?

FurioKid
09-06-2009, 21:10
Heres a pic of the lever that was seized. how free should it be?? tested it earlier and it seemed better, although haven't roadtested cos the waterpump seems to be leaking.

Thats the accelerator pump jet, if that seized it wouldn't squirt any fuel down the carb throat on initial acceleration and can cause a stutter on pick up, it should be very free and move with the accelerator.

Well it looks gd, got the pump lever working freely now, tightened the waterpump bolts and the leak appears to have gone. Test drove it at lunch and. . . .it now goes lol apart from it blowing a boost pipe off. Resecured it but haven't tried it again yet. Did get a wee bit hot though, 3rd line on the gauge, started to overflow out of the bottle, even though its all been bled of air
