Hi all

Bit of an unlucky first post but as the title says why does my car smoke on over run?

Done a bit of testing and searching so this is what ive found.

Smoke is grey/blue and is oily, only happens when hot and when I lift off the throttle or change down gears.

Engine compression tested at about 140-150 psi across all 4 when warm but not hot.

Running the standard breather setup and I did the little test where you remove the pipe from the telephone hose and put it in a bottle and see if much oil comes out. Well there wasnt much in the bottle but it did blow the dip stick out and cover the engine bay.

Had a couple of sugestions like valve stem seals or the engine is breathing too much, but is there a surefire way to find out whats wrong?

Smoke under those conditions points to inlet guides/stem seals. Excessive breathing caused by worn rings/bores would give smoke under load at higher revs and a gradually increasing level of smoke at idle.

All the above subject to the fact that nothing is certain!!!
