So who on these boards has sprayed before and how did it go.

Ive always had friends with bodyshops etc so ive always had an idea but never actually painted. I picked up a small touch up gun to hook onto my 25L compressor. I was only needing to spray a inlet manifold with some high build primer, however i struggled like hell to get the balance between the gun dribbling the paint out and it not spraying enough on. It may have been the paint itself being a bit to thick for the 0.8mm needle but we will have to see.

Ive always painted and pretty much everything you could imagine, your never going to get high build to come out of a gun with a .8mm fluid tip without putting **** loads of thinners with it, then its not really high build:) Put primer on with a proper gun, get yourself a regulater and set the pressure at the gun to around 2 bar.

You really need at leat 7CFM for a gun and about the same for an Air fed mask. For gun pressure painting a whole car the bigger the better, if it runs out of puff while your painting a long panel it will not only be annoying but also not flow properly i.e. likely to get dry spots and not be smooth.
2-3 HP would be a start ...

cheers for the info dude, i dont plan to spray the full car as i dont really have the ideal area to do it, for the time being im just painting up bits like the inlet manifold and the inside of the car as such a perfect finish is not needed, aswell as highbuilding the bumper and flatting them back to lose the texture of the plastic.

Make sure you use a proper plastic primer or it will all end in tears :)
