Slowly getting there!!!

Bought my 5 roughly 2 years ago now, had it on the road for 3 months then when I blew the headgasket and realised the sills were like swiss cheese I decided to take her off the road and try and restore it.

What she looked like when I first bought her

Decided to strip the engine and start from scratch

Cut the old sills away and rewelded new ones in including inner sills

Then didn't really touch it for over a year due to work etc. but finally managed to see light at the end of the tunnel lol

Resprayed recently although only got pics in primer so far

I'll hopefully get some more pics soon as the interior is now back in with a new windscreen and the bodykits been refitted

yeah I converted my garage into a spray tent and borrowed my mates compressor. Its by no means perfect but cost no where near as much as all my local bodyshops wanted lol

it was my first time spraying to be honest so was a little nervous, but hasn't come out too bad, gonna see about some graphics to hide crappy bits lol

I'll get some recent pics posted up of the car and the engine. Just gotta finish rebuilding the engine and get my wheels refurbed plus fit my door cards and she should hopefully be finished

Well basically everythings been replaced, even dropped the rear axle off cos the N/S/R chassis was rotten where the axle bolts too, so had to weld in a box section and redrill it lol. Also undersealed all the underneath aswell as replacing all the brake lines etc.

I'm hoping once shes done there'll only be a few niggly problems to sort..........but I think thats wishful thinking lol

Is enough air going to reach your rad with that HUGE intercooler at the front?

Did wonder that myself but the rad fans gonna be on a switch anyways and plus my way of thinking is that the air goes straight through the intercooler so it'll hit the oil cooler and the radiator behind

Little ldea also, make some plates and attach them to the front panel next to the intercooler so it directs air which hasn't gone through the intercooler round it and into the rad

Is the cross member joined behind the intercooler or has it just been cut?

No the crossmember is still joined, no need to cut it. Only thing that has been cut is the bonnet brackets as they would've caught the intercooler, so gonna be running bonnet pins instead

Well shes almost finished now, not just the finishing touches to do. Refurbed my alloys and reprayed them, fitted them this week but now my brakes arten't working correctly (query in GT Turbo forum). Also gotta set the the engine up cos its not running properly when revved, think its the mixture screw.

Also had to cut the bonnet due to the intercooler but where i'm running bonnet pins it doesn't matter too much :D

Got a pic today of the newly cut front bumper and bonnet, they just need spraying up. Also got my newly refurbed alloys on. Refurbed them myself and sprayed them up.

Please give me your opinions?

can i ask, how are you reattaching your skirts to your sills? did you replce the entire sill or just patch it?

ive noticed that the replacement sills dont come with the shoulder rivets to refit the turbo skirts.

I replaced the whole sill cos both mine were rotten. To be honest all i did my measure the height of the stud for the sideskirt on the front wing, then measured the idstance between the attachments on the side skirt. Dot punched where they should go and drilled holes then riveted them new clips in and attached the skirt on. I find it doesn't fit back properly but its secure which is fine for me :D

my opinion, move where you bolt the harneses into, behind you that is.

try to get them as high/ i guess level with your shoulders, as where they are you will bugger your back in a crash ;)

Noted thank you mate, i've now moved them upto the rear seat belt mouns so they're higher up :D

Fitted a new water pump tonight after finding mine had a small leak from it :(

Just waiting for my new clutch ratchet to turn up and then vroom vroom, time for MOT me thinks :p

Got no choice, the intercooler sits out so the grille can't be fitted, however i am going to mesh down the sides and bumper

did you get your new brake lines (metal ones) from renault ? do you remamber how much they were

I made them all myself using a brake flaring tool, think it cost me £20 for all the pipe and nuts

sad news is that i had to part with it due to needing a more sensible motor!!
