now ive heard alot of folks say that the gtt driveshafts are different to non gtt shafts - thicker=gtt. narrow=non gtt.!
is that right?
reason being is that i thought id ask a parts place and this is there reply =

"the thickness of the shaft is irrelevant, there were two thicknesses used for the Turbo, depending on whether they were solid (thinner) or hollow (thicker) both fit the Turbo"

i know both will fit the gtt:rolleyes: but where both actually used on the gtt.?

Only use the thicker shafts, Some people have got away with using campus shafts in the past. I tried a nos gen renault campus shaft off ebay it lasted 2 miles before the inner cv joint obliterated itself, made a nice bang:D

Aye, only use the thicker ones. I destoyed the inner cv joint also on a brand new thinner one within 100 miles, and thats on a car with std power. So i can see why Mr T28 above did one within 2 miles.

GSF numbers for the thicker shafts are-

R43807 DRIVESHAFT-LH R5 GT TURBO 85-92 JB3 G/BOX 49.00 Add
R43808 DRIVESHAFT-RH R5 GT TURBO 8/84) 43.74 Add

Those prices are based on exchange of the old shafts

They are both for the GT Turbo. Depends on the supplier if they provide thick (hollow) or thin (solid) I have had both. Campus ones are different lengths to the GT Turbo due to the gearbox.

I don't think you're right there Bigfoot.. I have heard of a few people using Campus driveshafts on GTT gearboxes..

Define campus?Loads of different model renault 5's were know as a campus, they came with a variaty of different engines sizes and gearboxes, as far as im aware 'campus' is a reference to the trim level of the car, like fords 'Ghia' models for example.
As long as they are for the JB3 gearbox they will fit the GTT, some campus' used a JB3, some a JB2 and some a JB5. As i said in my earlier post thou, from my experience i would never use the thinner shaft again on a GTT.

Was going to say if using the JB1 or JB4/5 gearboxes. Thats all I looked for.

JB1 RHS Length 692 LHS 600
JB3 RHS Length 688 LHS 597
JB4/5 RHS Length 680 LHS 610

Wierd one is from another supplier RHS 695 LHS 600 for the JB3 box. both 1.4 GT Turbo

Maybe they dont know what spec it should be lol

Just to put a spanner in the works:D

When Emma drooped a drive shaft at brunters in 2005 we fitted a campus one (solid shaft) and 30,000 later is still going fine:laugh:
