i want to move the battery to the o/s would there be any reason why this cant be done, as i havent seen any 5 with the battry on the o/s, which is why im asking, i just feel the possitive terminal is very close to the chasis and have shorted the battary to earth on one occasion, and now have to use a piece of carboard to stop this!
and also didnt know if having the earth from the battary to the earth strap on the o/s would help with electrics, and give a better earth to the engine!
basicly the main qestion is if theres a reason why i havent seen this done :agree:
My battery on van is on the offside, Think lower spec r5's are there too. As far as im aware its on the n/s on a gtt for better weight distribution.
The positive lead shouldn't arc out on wing if the batt is clamped in place properly.
It can be done & has been done. The majority of n.a 5's have the battery on that side, and a jack & handle on the nearside. For some reason, with the gtt, Renault decided to swap position of the battery, and stick the jack & handle in the boot :D
There's already a chassis/firewall bolt hole for the earth lead to hook to, and the positive/starter motor lead can simply be re-routed.
I can't remember if there's any securing holes/threads for a battery tray & clamp though...?

yer theres a clamp and tray area, and ive drilled the hole, and ill just shorten the the starter lead,
thinking it would also create less resitance as the earth to engine dosnt have to pass across the metal of the bulk head
yes i know it wont short out but its fecking annoying having to make sure i dont touch the very close chassis
