Steering column

Found recently that i can push and pull the steering wheel back and forth but theres no play side to side or up and down. Looks like the upper shaft is moving inside the column as i see no play at the uj. Does this suggest fecked column bushes?

sounds like the shaft is loose in the universal joint over the pedals!

i did try to have a look but can't see fully due to a bunch of wiring in the way. i'll have to try and move it out the way and have a looky
