putting a new stereo in my 5 at the moment.
i dont think its going to turn on unless i have its orange wire for its illumination control wired up.

it says it should go to car light control switch? what is this? is it just a 12v feed for the stereo? cheers

It is for night use, it is 12V, so when you switch your lights on the stereo illuminations come on, should work without it though.

Do you have a power probe? If so find a wire that has 12V when the car lights are on and 0V when off. You could have a look behind the fuse box.

any of the blue wires that go to a light up part of the dash is what you want. look behind the heater controls, find the blue wire in the connector.

All it does is dims the display so it's not so bright at night, try it without and if you feel it's too bright then connect it up. I find it's a bit annoying when driving in low light or heavy rain as you tend to have lights on but the display also disappears as it's not bright enough
