Hi all

I have a mk2 1.4 rt clio on a s plate and i have just fitted my volvo turbo lump in and got it running..
My main concern is i need some better brakes as i don't think my small front disc's and rear drums are going to stop 170 bhp...

Is there any easy up grade for the front, maybe like fitting 172 disc's and calipers ? would these be a direct fit to my hubs or are they 5 stud ?

Also if i want disc's on the rear would i need to change the whole beam or can i just swap rear hubs...

Any help guys would be great.. http://www.cliosport.net/forum/images/smilies/smiley10.gif

172 brakes will require adaptor brackets for the calipers. 280mm(?) disks, min 15" wheels

16V brakes should go straight on, 259mm vented. min 14" wheels

what size are your brakes?

or you could go megane f7r front brakes which are 285mm iirc .

Well according to haynes 238 mm, mine are vented thou, and drums on the rear, would that mean that my whole rear beam needs to replaced or can disc's and calipers be bolted to mine ?

Cheers

if they really are 238mm vented (20mm) they should be GTT brakes, they should be GTT brakes. If so any GTT upgrade will fit. Get your measure out first.

Dunno about the rear, if you have a vehicle code I could look at Dialogys. It's possible your stubs bolt onto the axle, in which case a swap is likely. You might be better swapping in a whole 172 rear beam (if it fits).

Do you have ABS?

if not you'll need a rear brake pressure limiter (I just bought a clio cup one for the Twingo), if yes you need to be careful with the triggers. You don't really need to worry about the rear brakes, they only really mount the hand brake.

On my old rt i had calipers and discs of a 16v clio, did the job very well, but couldnt fit 14" steelies on, had to run atleast 15" alloys

Hi bud..

Yup mine has abs all round, well haynes manual which covers 1.2, 1.4 and 1.4 16v, diesel, and 1.6...

Says all models appart from 16v 238mm

16 v models are 259mm

All i want is a cheap upgrade to something bigger, ill run 15" wheels thats fine.. So what would be the easiest direct swap... would laguna 16 v brakes fit straight on if i got calipers aswell...

that's jaffa on here, you can ask him direct. I think you'll need different brackets depending upon whether you start with 238 or 259mm disks. I think he started a thread recently about them.

Oh yeah, Laguna brakes, I don't think the calipers will bolt straight on, I think it's the same as 172 in that the bolt spacing is totally different.

That auction does say that it's from a 238mm disc which is the same as mine i think, looks like it just extends the caliper out to take a bigger disc, but surely if you do that then the pad wont touch the whole surface of the disc?

Just want summit to stop me lol ..

it does say that, but it also says clio 16V, and that's 259mm.

if you have 20mm thick 238mm disks they should fit fine.
