just been taking to someone, and they say there fuel pump comes on when they turn the ignition on, but mine only turns on once cranking, so i wondering if this is my starting problem, were its turn over for 3-4 secs then starts

any way could some one tell me what is ment to be going on, on ignition or cranking

The fuel pump should only engage when its receiving a signal from the TDC sensor... i.e, when cranking/running.

ah well this person reckons he turns the key and the pump comes on, and will then cut off unless switched on,

ah i see

It does pump initially http://www.renault5gtturbo.com/forum/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif thats how we figured out my mates problem on his dimmer, when there was no fuel passing and then I just done a direct wire up to the ignition so it pumped continuously via the white wire coming through the loom

so you turn ya ignition on.. then it buzzes then cuts off? unless of course you turn the key and it stays buzzing,

)Yep thats right! it goes buzzzzz lol then cuts off unless you turn to start

mm strange wonder if theres a separate circuit for this and mines not working??

Are we to expect this thread turning into another argumentitve slanging match, where, once again, you don't take in any advice given on here & think that everyone is talking bollox?

Pump does not run, only when cranking. There is no buzz at the start unlike an EFI car.

oh and the starting problem could be something to do with the fuel evapourating in the carb hence the poor starting hence renault fitted the perc fan.my mate says

I thought the fuel pump was meant to prime when ignition is switched on before cranking?
Seems like a genuine question, ease up guys, to people who dont know you long term members better it seems like your baiting him.

i have infact had the carb top off with plently of fuel in there, stuck the top back on and it still takes ages to fire, im starting to think the acel pump thingy on the side of the carb is knackered:confused:

is this diaphrame avalible from cgb etc?
or am i looking at a whole carb kit?

Poor starting (especially when warm) could be lack of or not working anti perc fan, carb issue ( yes the acc pump arm sticking which is common) Carb jetting/adjustment, Air leak, ignition issues, (incorrect plugs, distributor problems/worn dampness etc). If it starts sometimes and not others ie intermittant, it could be fuel pump relay, ecu or relay, tdc sensor fault. The lack of turning over will be the starter motor. Bin it and get new as its not worth the hassle to repair. Engine related it may be incorrect valve adjutment.
