im now ready to put the head back on the engine but i dont know wether to put a gsf uprated headgasket on or not.

the engine has a 185 cam and springs.

not a clue. havent planned that far ahead, a nice reasonable reliable figure i guess. dont know what that will be.

If your running standard or around that, the normal head gasket is fine, but if you have future plans of cranking it up I would advise fitting one now as to save blowing it at a later stage.

With gaskets I would always try to go OE. An uprated gasket seems pointless as you want the gasket to go before anything else, i.e. a cracked block, wouldn't you?

Well i went to gsf and had the part no. for the gasket kit and the uprated head gasket. the bloke asked me as to why i need 2 head gaskets, so i explained about having the uprated 1, to which he replied the head gasket in the kit is the uprated 1. i asked him to double check and he assured me and another member of staff got involved and he assured me too..

well its fitted now.

Id pick my gasket to what compression im aiming for or to what size my head is at... both gaskets can take high pressures...

o.e headgasket can take plenty of abuse. No need for the 'uprated' one unless you need to claim back (read lower) some c/r, or you simply want to run a slightly lower c/r.

had my head skimmed on my head for new engine rebuild was round 73mm before skimming, it now stands at 72.5 plus the mellior blue (uprated) gasket. Does this seem about right. will be running quite high boost though (22psi)

Should be ok. As always though, keep an ear out for detonation and adjust fuelling and/or ignition if required.
