View Full Version : Boost Problems
Evening.
Bought a boost gauge today to see what it's running as i have no idea about whats on this car!
Anyway to cut a long story short it's only running 8 psi. Have i connected it in the right place. It's the new clear hose. Pic below.

Also. Why is the red hose in the pic below linking the carb elbow to below? Is this right? The red hose on the left goes to the oem boost gauge.

it is indeed. your guage may also read vacume as well so dont be alarmed by that
just out of curiosity were does that pipe on the front of the carb go to. it shouldnt go to anything and be fed down the front of the engine and away from a source of ignition;)
Yeah that just goes down by the radiator.
Anyway thats the least of my worrys now.
Just blew my head gasket!
Gutted to say the least.
Oh but i sorted out the loose stud and nuts. Lol

I hope the boost hasn't rocketed up after tightening the carb bolts up:(

Dont know. One of the first times ive put her to go. Only took her to 5k Lots of white smoke and white crap on my oil cap. Oh well.
So is it the negative value plus the vacume on boost? If thats the case it was making 18 psi then?

No i check that. It was the same almost maybe 0.5 psi. Only done 2 short blasts and she blew. :(

it would be just the possitive boost you would be reading mate. it sound like it went pop because your fueling wasnt setup correctly

That breather hose with a bolt in the end wants sorting properly, remove the take off on the inlet manifold and replace it with a bolt of some sort. Think it might be m6-m8
if it were me i would be tempted to have the head checked over by a engineering company and see if its in need of a skim

Ill prob take it into work and clock it up to see. I got a fly cutter if it needs a skim. :)

Measure it first matey
Measure it first matey
What the over all thickness to see if it can be skimmed?
Need to check its straight and not warped so use a straight edge. ;)

Should be 73mm or more
Should be 73mm or more
Ok thanks.
How much does the head have to be out by to determine a skim is needed?
Should be 73mm or more
they can be used at less than that.

Ill clock it up. Use a DTI. Dial test indicator.

this is true and you would be giving yourself less tolerance for error.
