I can work out everything for removing to get to the gearbox, but just wondering how difficult it is to get out of the bay, can you remove the box from the car without removing the engine, or can it be done just by tilting the engine enough to slide it out. Any ideas, will start taking it apart this weekend, then putting it back next weekend once I recieve the box.

assuming you are talking 19 16v ??
can be done with the engine in but its a lot of hassle and half way down the line
you will regret it :)

best way is to get engine and g/b out together :agree:

Thats what I was guessing :( think its going to have to be the hassle route though, well like you say half way through might change my plans, but need to remove it all anyway to get the gearbox out, so wont be much difference really with both routes. But as long as its possible with engine in im willing to give it ago, as I only got a winch hoist in the garage and car has not got much chance of getting in the back garden at the moment :( but could borrow if needed.

can be done with just lowering the subframe on the n/s
take out the two bolts on the subframe n/s and also both bars that go to the wishbone to body.
but first this is important and dont forget ... disconect the stearing columb from the rack

loosen but dont remove the bolts in the subframe on the o/s

;)

Cheers Col :) That does sound easier, I gather its then slide the gearbox enough under the chassis rail to then twist and pull up :)

Well its all apart, just ready to tilt the gearbox with the subframe, Never known so many stuck bolts. Plus going to replace the starter motor whilst im at it. How many bolts hold it in place :( just need to wait to get the gearbox through and then its put it back next weekend which should be fun.

Thats off now :) easy to slide it out once you lower the subframe enough, only problem I had was removing the rear engine bracket which kept getting in the way :(
