vx220 vs R5 GTT

hey guys, just had a £20 bet with a friend at work that his non turbo vx220 will not 'waste' my 5....

wot you all think? for the spec of my 5 its in my profile :)

depends how he and yourself can drive, vx220's aint all that quick though. My friend had 2 of them and i wasnt really impressed with them. Id say he possilby has the upper hand though all the same. Im guessing from the sounds of it , it will be a quick straight line dash.

bit suprised of the general consensus towards the vx220 i know the turbo models can motor, bit suprised baout the na ones. What are they compared to a lotus elise s2 as the 5 got the better of one of those?

All depends on the driver as, i know i had a play with a Exiege on some private roads.

It was pretty much neck and neck, i was in front but he could get to over take me until i backed off...

As this is a puplic forum i am going to say speeds upto 60mph in a national speed limit road and was safe to do said speed.

The engine in the early cars was a z22se n/a, the later vx220 turbo was a z2.0 let turbo charged, and had a faster 0-100mph then a porsche 911 turbo.

Good to see some vx220 chat on here - I am always popping on R5 this that and the other on the vx220 boards :P

The n/a as std is 5.6 secs to 60 so it is going to need to be a decent 5 :P remember they only weight 879kg so even with 145bhp the power to weight is 168bhp per ton

My money is on the vx if he knows how to launch is :P

There are a few cheeky mods the n/a boys do to get an extra 10bhp very easy. Few s/c versions going round now and they are NOT slow 370bhp and a graph like a mountain!!!

Turbo is a different league even in standard format 197bhp weigh 930kg 215bhp power to weight 0-60 4.7

There was 65 genuine vxr versions with hybrid turbo 220bhp and fancy suspension / wheels / seats etc

Mine is completly different as ALL other vx220's have 5 speed box & iron block - I have the astra vxr engine (alloy) / 6 speed box - lots of goodies over the LET engine, mine is the LEH. Oh and lots of mods done my me :D need to weigh it again as I have drop a chunk more but not confirmed yet

Mine is 305bhp / 900kg 344bhp per ton but can use it all :P lower ratio gearbox is now getting me to 100 in approx 8 secs and 60 under 3 - its a bit of an animal. Playing with a friends arial atom 245 gets left in the midrange (love it though, gt3 rs got upset on my private track the other day also - teach him for getting the look at me orange version

To put things into perspective even my vag 5 which is a beast only has 270bhp and weighs 897kg giving 305bhp per ton but even with diff you can't use it off the line fully :( - despite the mag stats :D lol

On the bends in the hands of a decent driver (not me lol) no 5 would match but a few would be close - you know who you are.

Shoppers he was not trying ;) exige on the bends is a very good tool

not trying to get toooo deep about its the ride not the rider, i cant do the deep south accent to make most effect of the 'ride' bit, if anyone gets what im on about........
but round castle combe the other day i was only 10 seconds a lap off a exiege type r(aftermarket engine swap thingy) in my beat up old 325i bmw with nangkan tyres
if you were to put say the stig in both cars, then the lotus would of been alot quicker, same goes for a standardish 5 vs a vx220 n/a, the vx would kick ass.
A friend of mine has just spunked 27 grand on an exiege, would any of my cars beat him on track, maybe, difference is all mine are sub 2 grand cars, i'd drive to the limit, and beyond, he wont want to stuff 27k's worth of car to beat some ****y old bmw or r5 round a track.....

You are right in what you say - a £2k motor if you get it wrong is acceptable - £27k would be a hard one to swallow :(:(:(

my freind got a vx220 turbo,took it to the pod and got 12.4 @112mph on 888 tyres,its had a remap and exhaust,charge cooler,and pumps out 238bhp,as 4 the n/a model apperently the times aint far of a standard one to 60mph,so they are fast cars man,and im sure the 5 weights a smidge lighter,very uncomfortable cars tho,the seats hurt :laugh:,naaaa u will loose

i though all the vx220 n/a models were running the 2.2 seh motors which are an all alloy block along with the 2.0 turbo in the signum only which only produces 175bhp, unlike the cast 2.0 turbos you find in the astra g Gsi, astra h vxr, zafira a gsi, zafira b vxr which push 197bhp in gsi and 238bhp in the vxr. i might be wrong though

Yep hope for more than 115mph terminal this year - clutch copes with the power very well but no longer really likes full bore launches :D

Sparkie you know I don't break things - happens on it's own lol - LEH is a very good upgrade ;)

Don't know the n/a stuff as much (too slow for me lol)

Turbo there are 2 turbo engines

LET (cast block) from astra g / vx220 turbo / zafira etc and came with a hybrid turbo on the vxr220 only going to 220bhp

LEH on vxr models comes with a better turbo / balancer kit removed / forged pistons and under piston oil spray as std = 238bhp std

Chains on the n/a do see 100k but like the 5 you keep an ear open :P

12.4 with 240bhp is a good time - suspect he had a bit more than the power stated ;)

he got print out saying 238bhp, just scraped 12.3 @ 112mph with 888 tyres at the pod, remap,chargecooler,vxr turbo,thats all he done, i dont know wat boost he runs tho,he had so much gripp ther and had no wheel spin at all,it just took off,weird wen urs got a few more bhp horses,vxr engine and more engine work,but yet near same times between the too.:):):):)
