rtoc at pod is coming up, this could be a usefull thread for others.

Bear in mind Im on a budget, but want to get best grip i can, think these are my options, anyone with any advise would be great.

Standard wheels with 2 toyo r888 at the front
standard wheels with some cheap 2nd hand slicks off ebay on front
some steelies (14,15"??) with toyo r888 at front
or anything else?

Would it be better if i got some 15" steelies on the back and some 13" on the front, geting the back end higher?

For the strip slicks are the best mate, as for the back tall skinny tyres is what you want.

depends what you want to do, if you're serious you want drag slicks, if you're not just turn up with what you have.

You can play with this

I disagree about wanting tall rear tyres, you want stiff rear tyres, but it's not going to make much difference either way.

why do you want the back higher?

I'll be honest with you Andy i've always used a tall tyre on my old campus rims before but never really thought why:D Do stick with a skinny tyre though.

The one thing i do go for is as you say nice stiff rear tyres so they do get pumped up quite high and the suspension gets stiffer

Peeps might think of the rack angle to shift centre grav more to front, i cant comment on a 15 to the 13 inch rim? ive just allways used campus rims as there light and less tyre drag...... stiff as fook is what you need... stiffer the car the better, let the drag wall do the work. Also from what ive seen the tyres you have said wont be any better over a budget xmas tree tyre on a 60ft with them stiff walls they offer suitable for a track... feel free to prove me wrong :)...... just come with what you have and see if anyone will lend you a 20" MT set up on day for a run...

Andy Good pic :agree: ;)

IMO, don't waste money on r888 or other road/track slicks, they won't go up the strip any better than your road tyres. Also don't try dropping pressure down so they look like drag tyres, it'll cost you traction, they're designed to work at 30psi so leave them at 30psi! You either need to invest in a pair of drag slicks (note! not track slicks) or keep your money and just enjoy the day with what tyres you have already.

As rob says if you can stiffen suspension then do it, front and rear, everything in the suspension wants to be as stiff as possible for drag racing. This probably isn't of much importance unless you have real drag tyres on, but if you do then suspension settings can make all the difference in the world to 60' times.

funnily enough i've got some drag slicks that i bought off backyard.

think they are on 14inch wella steels. can't remember what tyre they are though. i've never even run them after i bought them!

i've also got 13 inch track slicks on gt turbo rims, which i found very grippy.

all are for sale :)

Cheers for the replies guys, cleared up a few things. Wont be bothering with 888's then.

I know where some campus wheels are, so therl do for the rear pumped up quiete abit.

Only reason i thought of puting bigger wheels on back was to aim the weight onto front wheels thinking it would get me more traction.

Still undecided on what to do for front. But yer if anyone wants to let me have a rip with some slicks that would be the tits.

Sparkie those 13" track slicks you talk about would they be any good, or what about those 14" slicks you have?
