Towing on the motorway?????

Does anyone know if ou can tow a car on the motorway with:

a, a fixed bar

or

b, and car dolly that lift the 2 front wheels.

Also is there a limit on how much you can weight you can tow? I have a standard licience, as of 2001.

any advice would be appreciated.

No doubt I'll get crucified, but i've towed my 5 plenty of times using an a frame towing device which bolts around the wishbones. It's solid, and I attach a numberplate lightset to the back. I've never been pulled over, don't think the police are that bothered, but technically it's illegal if the car your towing has no insurance. General rule for towing is that whatever your towing has to weigh less than the towing vehicle. :)

Car has to be legal according to the RAC man the other day, thats why they won't tow a car with no tax etc...

But he did say the police didn't really enforce it....much.
I know a fair few that have used A frames, i wouldn't use a bar on a motorway, a frame or towing dolly..

If the towed car has 1 wheel touching the ground it MUST be road legal ie: Tax, MOT, Insured etc etc.... unless going to a MOT station for a booked MOT.

But saying that i have used an A-Frame for towing my cup car and will do again... just pray your not involved in a serious incident as thats when police/insurance companies really look into the legal side of the cars/driver involved...

TBH you could always plead ignorance as the DVLA/DSA send out mixec messages and seem to contradict themselves left, right and centre.
