Subframe bar, connecting to the wishbone

Yesterday when resealing my timing chain cover i noticed that front drivers hub still has massive amounts of play in it after changing the wheel bearing and the front ball joint. Now i noticed there is a bar that bolts onto the end of the wishbone and seems to then be bolted up in the inner arch, however mine has rusted away and is therefore not bolted at the top. What is the purpose of this bar and could this be the componment causing the problems. Failing that i guess i wil have to remove my hub and see if the ball joint socket is ovaled. Or maybe the bolt just isnt tight enough , hmm....

indeed , thats the bar i speak of mate. , my top part has corroded

sorry its not the actual brace itself thats correded , its the inner arche thats corroded, where it bolts up.

well it depends really on whether to not its a critical component of the car and whether or not its the cause of the play. As for the rust, well its fixable as is most things, but id sooner spend the time on the 205 for now.

My ph had a snapped one of those, i drove around for afew weeks without realising :ashamed: I didnt feel any play

That bar wont be causing the problem. It will be worn suspension/steering components.
