Thats sucks! Was that a new turbo?? Hard to believe... since it already has lateral play in the shaft (hence the rubbing) and the cracked wastegate housing (although the latter is a common issue, but surely not after only 300 mi!). What happened??

mmmm i agree that sure dosnt look like 300 miles old maybe tripple that but i suppose it depends realy, if the compresser wheel is rubbing then it would casue un due stress,

surely u must of heard a strange noise from it rubbing like that?

new or refureb, did you buy it or came with the car, ethier way id say you need to be contacting k tec mate. and id tell them you want another sharpish, but then they can say youve over boosted it etc so depends i suppse

im sure you will get another shapish if you pay for a new one.

are you keeping an eye on your oil pressure. have you recently done a rebuild ect.

You be wanting to find out why the turbo died, it doesn't just go there has to be a reason for the turbo dieing. Normally oil contamination or low oil pressure normally kills the bearings.

I've seen a turbo last 5 miles before it died and it had nothing to do with the turbo itself, lack of oil pressure killed it.

ok well my oil pressure on boost was at around 4 to 3 bar on a aftermarket gague, and it never droped below 2.5 at idle. ive got no history of a recent rebuild, and the i brought the turbo from k-tec ive sent it to then to check to see if they will warrnet a new one, what would cause the contamented oil is it a worn bottom end

I seriously doubt you were getting 3-4 bar of oil pressure!! Your aftermarket guage is telling you porkies.

The crack isn't a big deal, but the picture of the comp side shows the wheel has come in contact with the housing.

3 bar (45psi) on boost over 3500 rpm is about right

Ok, up to 3 bar, but I can't see it going near to 4 bar.

There is something wrong if it cracks like that after 300 miles! 3,000 miles maybe (on full chat)... Just looks like its had a hard life!!

the turbos only been running 1 bar since it was fitted, and it hasnt been driven hard either, the oil pressure when cold at idle is about 4bar and then when it hot at idle its on 2bar the when ya rev it it goes up to 3bar and it holds 3bar all the way on boost.
would it be an idea to get a uprated oil fead, bigger one

Oil contamination is dirt in the oil, has the engine been apart recently?

Honestly i'd be finding why it went before you start buying bigger oil feeds, and oil filter for the oil feed pipe may be a good idea

ive had the car since jan this year and i got no history of a rebuild, would it be an idea to take the sump of and check in there if the shells are worn

out of interest where abouts can you get inline oil filters for the turbo, reason i ask is ive been recently doing my timing chain cover, and the bits of silicon and stuff that make there way into the engine worries me.
