Running.

A few small hitches, the odd leak... looks like ive corrected all those.

Fan not working/comming on.

Tryed bridging connection but nothing.

Tested the fan on a live and it works.... thinking connections, tryed different relays etc still nothing...

I would have thought that bridging the fan as in the way i would wire it to inside the car for over ride would work, but nothing.

Anybody handy with electrics etc, as id like to leave te car running for ages just to see how it heats cools, runs, vlah blah

Any ideas?

If it was me i would unplug the fan then bridge a piece of wire to the earth connection and just wedge it back into the plug and then try shorting the earth connection to the battery and see if it comes on when upto temperature, if it does then you know you have an earth problem somewhere, if it still does not work try the same but this time all you need to do is connect the live to the battery, you do not need to wait for it to heat up and see if it comes on, if it does then there is a live problem, then its a case of tracing back wards, a little bit of a bodge but at least if your careful you can do this with no specific experience or tools.

Don't lose hope. I've had parts disapear... well, given to someone to acid dip and skim a head, and put new pistons on rods for them to vanish off the face of the earth.

Give it a few day, and think of all the work thats gone into getting it this far.

Im over that, i have to be just like when R5gttraider mugged me off. End of the day id of ended giving said parts away lol.

Just work stopped paying me now, still not deemed fit enough, wont be long till they sack me... no money... xmas on the way... using betting account to live so now thats being hammerd and not in a betting sense.. and that was really what funded the 5 in the first place.

Not to mention the help from all my friends from this place, and those who have helped, im extremly greatful.. it has not gone un noticed, i will be there when you need.

Its because of these people ile keep going on the 5, or it would be a huge let dow to all helping hands involved.. ive learnt who is helpful and a good friend, also learnt that alot of people just mean well non stop... and those who dont.. well let them be nasty and take things just hope you get caught by a meanie one day... if i caught you, you know id forgive instantly there for i guess thats why i find my self mugged off so often.

be it not for most people, even those tiny comment on this thread with nice things to say, id of given up long ago.

I get the impression your gonna cherish the car big time, hence talk of carcoons etc in other threads. In which case i'd imagine o.e. all the way, and being as proud as anything at shows of how it looks, and the comments you'll get back.

However, if you get a little bored.....which we all do, fitting a sidey is an hours job max!
at the end of the the day a sidey does sound good. Keep your options open.

how do mate. I dont know you personally but I cant believe how much hard work you and your friends have put into this car! It looks amazing!!

Ive bought a red 5 GT turbo myself with the intention of doing the same thing but could only dream of it being as stunning as yours! Shows what you can do if you put your mind to it and have friends like yours to help see it through

Dont give up on this mate, its a credit to you. Keep up the good work and I hope everything works out for you with your back problems, work etc.

Cheers alan, its a working nightmare process.

Update

So thanks to phils help the oiler cooler is in situ, as per pics.

Getting the front bumper on is the biggest mission ever. After chipping the paintwork and craking the arch.... dont ask how, but barley noticable.
I found the tow bar to be bent, so i bent it down back where it should be.

But i went to remove it, two bolts one for the engine mount and the other solely for the tow bar. The engine mount is tight as arse holes, but the actual tow one is a tad loose will this matter? I doubt it but could be wrong.

Also last night was a good crack.. 5five 5's in the drive was a good effort! almost a T2, nice to see new faces and all are more than welcome back :)

simple is not the word at all... just back in from the garage.

Looks like the dash will be comming out, one of the connectors that sits just above the heater matrix was missing. so fan was never gonna work.

I tried popping connectpors on the fan to a switch, but with the limited room at the point in which the fan sits in it didnt work.

Now ive destroied the fan, so new interior fan required!!...

Hmmmm dash out unless i can come up with somthing/a good idea

Just a little tip I discovered for cleaning black"dimple" finish plastics, apply a small drop of olive oil on a microfibre cloth rub in well then rub off. It sounds mad but does work. It won't work miracles with old faded plastics but will clean old polish etc away..

At the request of several people, here follows an update.

To those of you that are actualy botherd, and for those of vain interest and following this cars progress, MOT time is around the corner.

The car is now as it stands (due to hard work by the following James5, Dave..H, philr5t, Fido's got a raidar) Mot ready more or less... some more gear box oil and its ready..

All the tiny small bits have been getting done over the past few weeks to which i owe thanks to the above mentioned for helping.

Once Mot'd (sat 17th 9am) and assuming it passes the tracking set up, it will be road tested fully, then sat until monday 19th when it goes to the body shop for the few finnishing touches... this is assuming it passes mot.

What with some rather testing times over the past year, back opperations and the like.... silly drug things blah blah, i just wanna say thanks to all involved in helping; wether it by giving of parts, advice etc etc and for those close keeping me on the straight and narrow... even to the extent they talked about building an engine for my wheel chair.

If it was not for certain people on here my car would still be the 300 quid wreck it was on day dot.. not the multiples or k it now stands at.

cheers chaps.:agree:

A few pictures.

Had a few issues. Main one being the alternator is KAPUT, car would start then run up road, idle then die.... then not turn over just click.... leave it 10 mins its just about starts.

Put volt meter across alt running and got 11.26 v and same across battery, our guess alternator....

any way once thats done, all shall be ok...

only other issue was heater matrix pipe blew off and slight missing at about 3k revs,

blah blah, blah blah

re: the alt / battery prob. be sure to check and re check all earths are good ;)

I had an rac guy tell me 130miles from home, that my battery and alt are kaput. only to get relayed home and find my earth had came loose slowly over a couple of weeks untill the bolt feel out and was no longer attached to anything :(

fixed that and still have the same battery and alt that the guy tested and said was at fault.

missfire ? or just bogging down ?

James5
15-04-2010, 09:18
Ohhhhhhhhh also hand brake light is constantly on>>>> any ideas people?

Handbrake light system on the 5 is pretty simple there is a switch on the hand brake that sends a signal when the handbrake is placed in the down position to the dash to turn off the dash light, I am assuming either the cable wasn't put back on for the handbrake off switch or the switch is broken (the cable is lilac/ purple in colour with a spade connection on it) or it got knocked off when the carpet was put back in.

With ref to the alternator - Check the earths are actually to bare metal and not on paint so maybe a case of removing a couple to check and sanding down then putting the cable back with bolt and going voer the top of them with some of your por15 to give it some protection. Maybe worth putting an extra earth in place you can never have to many earths but they need to go to bare metal and from a bare metal part of the engine could just be due to the car being painted that nothing is going to a bare metal part of the car.

3k missfire could be a few things, spark plug gap incorrect, knackered dizzy + Rota arm, HT leads, Main HT leads, AEI, Fueling related, Timing (Dizzy gear), TDC.

With ref to the heater matrix pipe just get it on an tighthen it up

But top work guys I take it you done the gearbox fluid now? Shame I couldn't be with you all yesterday :(

FAIL

001. near side front (no beam image) needs adjusting (HOW?)

002. offside front drives seat insecure (after a total tug)

003. off side rear fuel system leaking (WILL NEVER FILL UP AGAIN)

004. exhaust emmissions too high(DONE)

005. engine idle speed to high (DONE)

006. offside front tie rod nut loose. steering locking device insecure (DONE)

007. offside lower ball joint nut/bolt loose locking device ineffective (DONE)

008. offside rear inner wheel arch not welded to outer sill...(tiny gap)

009. nearside front inner sill one little hole

010. near side outer sill not welded to inner suspension comp (tiny amount)

Thing is i didnt bother with inner seals as they all appeared fine!...

I HAVE THE FECKING NEEDLE

although the things wrong are very small in comparison to things that potential could be wrong.

Big thanks to all in volved to this point, your hard work has shown, and these silly fails are my piss poor fault.

At least we have a list :) Easy fix matey alot of that unfortunatly I can't weld (yet I plan on doing a course thus year) but I can sure sort out the rest of it and the emissions but I am sure we can get it to run leaner just need an emissions tester kit or a wideband to make sure fueling is find. Did they say were the leak of fuel was actually coming from at the rear?

No, what you did was spot on. Iam sorting bits out as we speak... hmmmmmm gotta get it to body shop wednesday, should be a fun drive

Ok, i have done a fw of the bits, track rod, ball joint, emissions, idle speed.

Well i think ive done teh emmisions assuming the gas o tester is accurate.

Need to get a small thing for the drivers seat front screw, as the tiny block has gone missing. (not the big black things for the rear bolts on drivers seat)

Just burnt feck out my hand, saw heater matrix hose popping off again (after tightning) and as i poped hand down to nick it up it popped off! CNUT!

anyway im getting there

With ref to the fuel tank leak I remember markeyb saying he got some kind of putty that he used on his fuel tank to stop leaks and it worked fine. Not to sure that Halfords will do this but a local motor factor may.

Could be a case of getting it online and getting it delivered and when you pic your 5 up putting it on then

Drive to body shop...

1. A new oil leak has sprung, and its a real leak not a drip. (possible the oil pressure sender thingy)

2. gearbox oil leak still... where the feck is it comming from.

3. need tank repair putty stuff!!! i belive the bung is to blame for my leak, lost alot of fuel on the road.

Apart from that it drives real nice, just needs some tracking doing.

Looks like when i get it back (errrrrrhhh) i'll remove all hoses from teh bay and find the leaks :)
