My new pistons are being pressed into my old rods today, and the engineers have just rung me up saying that The funny little picture ( that i assumed was the flywheel end) is the end away from the flywheel. They say the cutouts make it look like they want to go the opposite way from the pics. Anyone else had this problem?

Doing the same job at the mo - looking from the front of the car:

The V--> on the piston points towards the flywheel.

The tabs on the big ends for locating the shells should be on the firewall side of the engine (the back of the block) hope that helps..

Thanks olidaviesuk. Havnt got them in front of me as they are being pressed as we speak. I can only remember a funny symbol on the tops of them, and the the engineers says that to line up with the old pistons this symbol needs to be facing away fron the flywheel.:ashamed:
I hope they come back right:sad2:

It doesn't matter which way round the pistons are fitted to the rods as they aren't an offset item as such.

As Oli said, just make sure the cut-outs on the big-ends/bearings are facing towards the back of the engine when re-fitting.

just make sure the gudgeon pin doesnt pretrude outside the piston skirt as this scores the liner.

Piston rings were NPR EUROPE, but cant remember make of pistons. Liners began with euro ( i think)!

How bad are your liners, if they are ok and your pistons aren't cracked i'd just get rings which are about £70
