View Full Version : Camshaft advice needed

I'm currently trying to get a bit more power. I'm changing to a small hybrid turbo (I think it's a KTR 180) and I'm planning on running about 16psi. I'm not sure whether to get a piper 270 or catcam 5500320. They're both have a similar profile. Can anyone on here recommend one as opposed to the other? With running just 16psi are either of the two cams above going produce a noticeable difference to the standard cam? cheers. :)
Not really. Those cams will push the power-band up the rpm scale, albeit not substantially, but either way it isn't gonna help you with a small ish (read restrictive) back-end of that turbo in situ.
Imho, either keep the cam o.e, or fit a larger blower...but then if you do that, I'd also be looking at a hotter cam than a 270; more like a 285, rt200, etc.

the catcam is a lot hotter than the Piper 270, it's nearer to the piper 285. As Mart said, save your money and keep the standard cam.
Has anyone ever ran 0.3mm clearences?
my cam sheet say's it's what mine must be!
Yep, on my old rt200, exhaust side.

Oh bugger!! just looked what my 270 piper cam clearances should be. It say 0.25 Inlet 0.30 Exhaust. Is this right?? Mine are set to standard at the mo!! Will it make much difference??

So the ktr180 is too small for a noticeable gain? Hmm shame as it's been gathering dust for some time in my garage. So when I bought it I assumed that it would give me some lag free bhp. Is this not the case or can the right T25 be as effective? My 5 is a for track use only so I'm looking for blower which is immediatly responsive out of corners, how much money would I be looking at for decent T25 and piper 180 cam plus vernier and all the other bits? Is it really worth the outlay? Would I achieve 170bhp with KTR180 set at 16psi or is that over optimistic?
