some of you might know ive rebuilt my turbo 2.
its had a slightly uprated cam shaft, which has obviously reduced the engine vacuum whilst cranking and at idle. which unfortunately the metering head needs to suck its plate upwards!!
i'm running merc injectors, and ive advanced the dizzy timing from 10deg BTDC to 14deg and it runs alot better than it did at idle. - i took it for a drive and it didnt wanna pick up revs.- the AFR at the time was about 13.5 crusing and then decided to creep up near 14 when it was boosting....alittle lean methinks...
Ive been doin alot of reading on the net, but has anyone else got experience of Bosch K Jetronic? anyone used to be into Ford RS Turbos?

when you say it doesnt want to pick up, if the afr's good that only leaves ignition I guess, could it be a mile out ?

I'll put a couple out.

Are your throttles balanced? 14afr isn't lean enough to stop it picking up. What do your plugs look like?

Your cam is pretty mild, it can't have less vacuum that something like an RS1600i

I have no personal experience with it but their is a very good guide in practical performance car this month all about trouble shooting and what to check with them.

Its got to be worth a read to see if it can help you.

Scoff, yeah i advanced it 4 degrees and it seemed happier. ill need to take it for another run. i tried to see if i had a leak anywhere, but the brake cleaner trick revealed nothing. Another run is needed i think.

Andy, i only have one throttle plate- between the metering head and the turbo. the turbo then blows into the intercooler and then into the inlet manifold. ill have to check the plugs.

knowing me ive probably done summat stupid...

cam timing ok ? just thinking of reasons why it might feel flat.

erm, was quite abit out. sorted now. just need to re-tweak the metering head, the idle adjust, the timing, the throttle plate position etc etc. :eek:

the cam timing. me being hopeful at best, and a lazy bodger at worst, decided that maybe the cam would have been ground correctly as i'd paid good money for it. you live and learn. got a catcams timing wheel off ktec and fitted and timed it in situ.

car started first time with guessed ignition advance.
immediately more revvy with no load on the engine. and the vacuum appears to be a bit better too, or maybe thats me imagining things.

will need to get ignition advance sorted first, then worry about fuelling and plate position.

then of course i gotta MOT, Tax and Insure it all this week ready for sat. lol! good job i got the week off!
