View Full Version : Zafira GSI Help
Last night on my way home from helping a fellow member remove and strip his engine from his GTT.
I ran in to my own problems on the M25 all of a sudden my Z20LET engined Zafira warning light came on :scared: the car then sounded like it was running on 3 cylinders. I am not to good with these modern engines but I think it could be a coil stick or pack failure, it wasn't very light by the time I got home so no chance to have a look will be hopefully be fixing over the weekend.
The temp gauge was fine, and no smoke or anything from the engine or exhaust, no leaks when checked, I will check sparkies any other suggestions?
Anyone??
I will add the following, No loss of coolant, idle seems ok if a little lumpy (to be expected if running on 3 though) exhaust note has changed (Again to be expected if running on 3) sounds more beastley.
Will check the oil level over the weekend as well.

are the coils the coil on plug type? they're pretty common to fail. It's about time you got an OBD reader - you know, the one you need for the 5 :D

I've borrowed one of these from a guy at work to see how I get on.

and downloaded the free version of this

and this

obviously I haven't been able to plug it into anything yet.....

The coils are the coil stick type directly attached to the sparkies but they are connected to a big block that is attached to all 4 and they do not sperate from the block at all:crap: So if one goes the whole setup needs to be replaced:(
I have been looking into OBD readers and just not to sure which one to get but it would help diagnose some problems.

Andy, would that exact reader that you have linked connect to my 182 to clear the fault lights? not bad for £7.00 if it works?

Ashy, I have just gone and ordered a hand held jobby as have no lappy. Once it arrives and I have finished you are welcome to use matey:D
Now all I need to do is get an OBD-II port with a section of loom for the 172 lump:( hopefully one of the cliosport boys are breaking a car

if you can get hold of a connector and length of loom out of anything you'll be able to wire it in

Common fault on the 20 let lump im affraid mate..
Coil pack is one whole long piece, powers all 4 plugs in one go.. Cost's £120 from main dealer..
I would also like to add that where possible fit main dealer parts to vauxhall cars as the prices are very very good, a after market coil pack is around the £100 and a load of **** if you don't mind me saying, better to spend a extra £20 - £30 quid and get a proper one, and being 200 bhp standard you want a nice clean healthy spark...
Hope this helps, :agree:

Ashy, the OBD reader will only turn off the engine light, not do any of the ABS or anything like that. its for emissions only....
Well the problem seems to be fixed I purchased a new coil pack anyway from Vauxhall and done a basic service myself and the fault seems to have gone so I am assuming it was the coil pack.
Still got OBD Reader on the way.
Thanks for all your help and advice.
