First post!

Hello here,

I am making a website about the Birmingham Superprix:

http://8w.forix.com/bsp.html

At the first ever Birmingham Superprix, there was a Renault 5 Turbo Pro/Am celebrity race in 1986 and there are some little information in here:

http://8w.forix.com/bsp-86race.html

They are the very few photos I got of the race:

http://8w.forix.com/bsp/renaults-bsp86.jpg

I am wondering if anyone got any photos or the full race results of the Pro (Professional) and Am (Amateur/celebrity) races?

There was some well known celebrities that took part in the race such as Pat Roach, Steve Pinder, Lord Brockett or Eddie Kidd for example.

Also apparantly, at the time in 1986, Top Gear did show a 10 minute piece of the Renault 5 race but I have been unable to find the footage I am looking for.

I am wondering if anyone could help me?

Cheers

Never mind, glad you noticed the BSP videos I uploaded there!

Anyway, here is the entry list to help anyone out there:

Bear in mind, some names didn't make or changed before the event such as Sti Jack Brabham who pulled out as he was on a business trip in Australia and Rowan Atkinson didn't make it for some reason.

Hey my 5 used to be raced by Alex Postan, and he's mates with a bloke who is connected with the brooklands trust (a historic banked circuit in surrey) I spoke to his mate to get some history on my 5. He was really helpfull and I think (i'm not 100%) certain that his name is Rob Titherly. My 5 looks exactly as it would have done in this race although he used a few cars (as he kept rolling them) so it's probably not the exact car - allthough it could be. Hope this helps.

Wow, Pat Roach in a Renault 5! It would've been worth the enterance fee just to watch him try and get into one

Good work on putting the website together. The club doesn't have any info, footage or pictures from the time you are looking for im affraid. But quite a few of those cup cars are still around, and in the hands of our members, hopefully someone will have some info that'll be usefully for you.

Northerner, I got the DVD of the BBC broadcast of the 1989 BTCC race but thank you for the offer though.

This is tricky for me. I know the Birmingham City Council set up this race but with who?

Directly from Renault or from the organisers of the Renault 5 Cup series?

By the way, there is a nice grey Renault 5 car by the flats in Walsall near where I live. It looks lovely!

Hello, just a small bump.

A former photographer posted those brilliant photos from the Superprix. Have a gander in the Renault 5 collection folder:

SO does anyone else got any more information or photos from the event?

Who is actually responsible for organising the Renault 5 race?

Is it Renault UK? If so who or where can I contact about information of the race?

This is my kind of street racing

There were some great races held through the years, R5's, F3, the BTCC and even Metro 6R4's!

Bring it back! :yeah:

You could try ringing Tony Hart at Prima Racing, They set up the cars and might have some answers for you.
